The stock market rebounded Thursday. The Dow surged
52 points, while the S&P 500 rose 5 points and the Nasdaq added 12
points.

Another record settlement for oil. Near-month
crude rose 16 cents to reach a settlement record of $123.69 a
barrel on the New York Mercantile Exchange.

The three biggest U.S. airlines say they have
again raised ticket prices, this time by $20 roundtrip. They're
trying to recover rapidly rising fuel costs.

General Motors has agreed to kick in up to 200
million dollars to help bring an end to a strike at parts supplier
American Axle and Manufacturing Holdings. The automaker says in a
government filing that the money would go for temporary payments to
buffer reduced wages for the workers, as well as employee buyout
and early retirement packages in the event of a deal.

Generally speaking, retailers fared better in
April after suffering through months of lackluster returns.
Wal-Mart Stores and Costco Wholesale were among the top performers
last month, while most mall-based apparel stores continued to
struggle.
