Sixth graders will return to Spanish Fort Elementary School Thursday. The students have been going to classes at local churches since lead paint was discovered in the school over Christmas break. State health officials said the 6th grade area was clean enough for students to return.
Kindergarten, 1st and 3rd graders returned to the school Monday. 2nd, 4th & 5th graders will continue to attend classes at the churches until their areas can be cleaned up.
The Baldwin County School System says crews still have to clean 12 classrooms, a bathroom, and an office. They also have to replace soil and landscaping before the entire entire is considered free of contamination. Right now, areas still being cleaned are blocked off from student access.
