OPELIKA, Ala. (AP) - Authorities investigating the death of ababy girl whose body was found in a drainage ditch are awaiting
forensic evidence for more clues today.
Opelika police Captain Allan Elkins said the only new
information that could be released today was that the baby is a
black female.
He told the Opelika-Auburn News that the tragedy was the first
of its nature in the city.
Opelika police received a 911 call around 9 a.m. yesterday and
found the baby unresponsive at Tree Top Apartments.
Lee County Coroner Bill Harris pronounced the infant dead at the
scene at 9:45 a.m. Authorities took the body to Montgomery for an
autopsy.
