Auburn Police are looking for the person who shot and killed a student, then set her car on fire.Police were called to the scene of an injured female on North College Street just after 9:00 Tuesday night. When officers arrived, they found Lauren Burk. The 18-year-old freshman from Marietta, Georgia had been shot. Burk was transported to East Alabama Medical Center, where she later died.
Less than half an hour after police found Burk, someone reported seeing a car on fire in the parking lot of Hinton Field. Police say the 2001 Black Honda Civic is registered to Burk.
The case is under investigation by Auburn Police, the Department of Forensic Sciences, the Lee County Sheriff's Office, and the Lee County District Attorney's Office.
In a letter to students, the University is urging students to be careful both when on campus and out in the community.
