The sample ballots are out for the Democratic and Republican Presidential Preference Primaries in Mobile County. But will some voters find them confusing?
There are names of candidates, delegates, instructions on how many delegates to vote for and, on the Democratic side, even rules on how many male and female delegates to vote for.
Here's one bit of information that could make voting easier for you: officials with both parties say you don't have to vote for delegates.
You can just vote for the candidate of your choice.
Still, they encourage people to vote for delegates.
Brad Warren with the Mobile County Democratic Executive Committee says, "That is the closest thing you can get to grass roots in America today, because you're voting ordinary citizens to go to the convention and vote on the presidential candidate that you would like to see as the next president of the United States."
Mobile County Republican Party Chairman Mark Erwin says, "Its an important process because it allows all of the influence of the voters to be equitably distributed across the country. Otherwise, we would simply have the largest states making the decisions about who each party's representatives are going to be."
Here's another important rule to remember: don't vote for delegates who are not committed to the candidate you vote for.
Voters in Mobile and Baldwin Counties can cast ballots on Fat Tuesday, February 5th, or on a special early voting day, which is January 30th.
