Allstate Insurance says it has paid out millions in claims to people the company says were defrauded by Chiropractic Strategies Group which once operated a clinic in Mobile called Bayside Spine and Rehab. Now the insurance company has filed a lawsuit against that group and 66 other individuals and businesses associated with it. News 5 reported in November that a number of people involved in auto accidents were contacted by someone claiming to be from the Clinic Scheduling Center. They were sent here for what was called a free medical evaluation. One of those people was Harold Williams.Williams told us, "I got a call from a lady named Lucille identifying herself as being from the clinic schedule, clinical scheduling or something to that effect. She wanted me to get to see the doctor, get checked out."
News 5 learned Bayside Spine and Rehab and Chiropractic Strategies Group are owned by Dr. Michael Plambeck, a chiropracter with offices based in Arlington, Tx and Kenner, La.
Williams and other accident victims told News 5 they were evaluated in this office by Dr. Glen Wilcoxson, who referred them to the chiropracter operating Bayside Spine and Rehab. Wilcoxson has also been named in the Allstate suit.
Shortly after our original stories aired in November, Dr. Wilcoxson's name was removed from the building. That left Bayside Spine and Rehab operating alone. Those offices have also since been abandoned.
The Allstate suit is seeking damages in excess of ten million dollars. The company believes there are hundreds of victims.
"We're comfortable saying or believing that there have been in excess of a thousand potential victims or people who've been contacted by this organization in at least 5 different states including alabama, including the mobile area." said spokesman Bill Mellander.
Mellander says Allstate investigators broadened their investigation into Chiropractic Strategies and Dr. Plambeck after seeing our reports on the company this past November.
News 5 contacted Dr. Plambeck and Dr. Wilcoxson for comment. So far we have received no response. We will update this story if and when we do.
