Registration is now open for this years Alabama gator hunt.The season will be held August 15-18 and August 22-25 in the Mobile-Tensaw Delta. There will also be a third gator hunt from August 21-24 at Lake Eufala.
Last year, the largest gator was harvested at Lake Eufala. It weighed a state record 675 pounds (pictured).
That topped a giant gator that was caught a few days earlier in the Mobile Delta (see video). It was 12-and-a half feet long and weighed 500 pounds.
Last year, nearly 1,300 people signed up for the gator hunt and only 140 permits were issued. This year, the number of permits has been expanded to 165.
If you want to participate, you must register online by 8:00 a.m. on July 14. The cost is $6.00 and you must be at least 16 years old. Winners will be randomly selected by a computer and then notified by e-mail. If selected, you must confirm that you will participate by 5:00 p.m. on July 16.
