A judge has ruled a Baldwin County
pastor whose wife drew wide notice when she disappeared from a
Christian women's conference in Louisiana for four months will get
sole custody of their two children.
A month after the Reverend Jason Lee Smith of Summerdale filed
for divorce, Mary "Beth" Byrne Smith - who returned to Baldwin
County in late July - also agreed yesterday to pay $200 a month in
child support starting in January. The Smiths have lived apart
since she walked out of a seminar at a Bossier City, Louisiana,
arena on March 24th and Jason Smith has cared for their two
children - ages 10 and 7. He filed for divorce last month.
A police investigation later found that she pawned her wedding
ring and bought a bus ticket. In July, police tracked her to New
York.

She sure fooled me. I thought she was dead for sure, why else would she not use her credit card. I guess she wanted her family to think that she was dead.

Considering she has a 7 and 10 year old, this was a totally cruel thing to do.

Was this some sort of punishment against her husband for not taking out the trash or something? She must have been filled with hatred.

Too bad people don’t just open the phone book, the other book, and make an appointment with a psychologist instead of doing something crazy.
