ATLANTA (AP) - The family of an 11-year-old Alabama girl has
filed a lawsuit against Delta Air Lines after the child said a man
sexually molested her on a flight from San Diego to Atlanta.
Savannah lawyer Mark Tate is representing the family. He says
the girl -- whose name is NOT included in the lawsuit -- was
traumatized.
Tate says the girl reported the assault to her mother when she
got off the plane January 6th, but authorities have filed no
criminal charges and have not identified a suspect. The mother took
the report to police in Huntsville, Alabama, Atlanta police and the
FBI.
Delta spokeswoman Susan Elliott says the airline tries to
properly serve all passengers and to ensure their safety and
security. She says Delta has special rules for keeping a close
watch on children flying alone.
The lawsuit filed in Fulton County State Court says the girl was
on a return trip from San Diego where she was visiting her father.
Her mother -- a 31-year-old property manager from Huntsville -- was
set to meet the plane in Atlanta.
The lawsuit says the man began rubbing himself while rubbing the
child's face.

Children, under the age of 16, are too young to be alone on any
public conveyance. This is just another example of parents dumping there childs care on fellow travelers or staff.  I see it all the time, on public transportation, at vacation spots, camp grounds, water parks, you get the picture.  The parents are so self centered they feel they shouldn’t be responsible, after all, they paid for a ticket, and that leaves the staff, with the added responsibility of baby sitting.  When the staff members are too busy, this leaves everyone else in the area to deal with an uncontrolled child or volunteer to baby sit.
He might have been a pervert, but, by allowing a child, that young, to travel alone, anything could happen or be imagined.
I’m a male, 54 years old, and I would not allow myself to be alone with a strange child, anywhere.  Although I am not a child
molester.  The way our legal system is designed, the child could say what ever she might imagine and my reputation could be destroyed.  Even if, after thousands of dollars in legal fees, my name were cleared, you know how it works.  Accusations are on PAGE ONE and acquittal is some where at the bottom of page 18.

I agree that the girl should have screamed and brought attention to the problem but I have learned that many children are too scared to do anything. I also agree that children dress too provocatively these days but whose fault is that? The parents! If parents would do the job they are suppose to do we wouldn’t have half the problems we do today with children. But to insinuate that this little girl brought it on herself by the way she dressed or that she didn’t respond as you feel she should have, is wrong. If it is a lie I am sure an investigation will show that. If it is not, I would hope that this family will have learned a valuable lesson. I also hope that parents come to realize that their children are just that… children; and they start watching over their safety as they should. As for suing, I personally do not agree with that either, but that is a whole other subject.

My question is how does sueing the airline on this “little girls” word help anything, no, I wasn’t there, but, on the surface it just sounds a little fishy. Maybe mommy could have put a bug in the little girls ear.  All we know is what the media tells us. If a man is “rubbing himself “ on an airline someone is bound to notice.

First, the child should have screamed mid-flight and brought attention to herself and this “man”.  She may not be an innocent party.  Look at the outfits some of these 10-12 year olds where while on board.  Cheap is as cheap does.

My kids flew alone at ages 11+ and never had a problem.  If you teach them what to do and not to do, they don’t cause problems.

Kids are NOT innocent these days.

I am curious “MeAmerican”, were you there to witness that it DIDN"T happen? Unless this child has a history of lying, why would it be doubted? Men have been molesting our children from the beginning of time, why would being on a plane stop a child molester? I have never thought it was safe to fly a child alone under the age of 16. It is sad that a child’s safety has so little value and is expected to fly alone. Is saving a few dollars on a plane ticket to fly your child to the ex really worth your child’s safety?

Oh,didn’t know you were there to witness alleged abuse. Surely no kid would lie. Please, understand that just cause the liberal media reports it, doesn’t make it true. In fact if it comes from a"news source” I’m all the more to disbelieve it, WAKE UP!!!
