MONTGOMERY, Ala. (AP) - The Alabama Court of Judiciary will
decide Thursday whether to remove a jailed judge from office.
The court spent Wednesday listening to witnesses testify against
Circuit Judge Stuart DuBose of Clarke County. The court will
reconvene Thursday to decide if he has violated the standards of
conduct for judges and should be kicked out of office.
DuBose is currently in the Baldwin County Jail on a federal
charge of possessing as many as 30 guns in violation of a
restraining order.
Witnesses testified Wednesday that the judge abused prescription
pain killers, promised favorable treatment to hometown attorneys
and pressured local attorneys to support him for re-election.
The judge's defense lawyers did not put on any witnesses or make
a closing argument.
