NEW YORK (AP) - The Reverend Al Sharpton is calling for a
"pray-in" in New York City.
The civil rights activist has pledged to close down the city
since three police officers were acquitted in the killing of Sean
Bell. The unarmed man died in a barrage of 50 police shots on his
wedding day.
Sharpton says on Wednesday protesters will pray on their knees
at half a dozen places in the city, including police headquarters,
and then fan out to undisclosed spots. A spokeswoman for Sharpton
says wherever they go, "they'll be arrested praying."
Bell's fiancee, Nicole Paultre Bell, plans to participate and
she says she'll take part in any other protest until, in her words,
"justice is done."

Yes, Booker T. Washington was an amazing man that didn’t dwell on the past sins of others.  He looked toward the future and went from slavery to education, because he knew it to be the only road that would give true freedom.  I can almost guarantee you he never told his students that they were biologically different from others and lacked the ability to learn the basic skills.

Rev. Wright’s rant about that topic was appalling and should deeply offend every black man, woman and child living in this country.

BamaBob, you nailed it with Sharpton and your very astute and knowledgable reference to Booker T. Washington’s “The Intellectuals and the Boston Mob” where he states:

“There is another class of coloured people who make a business of keeping the troubles, the wrongs, and the hardships of the Negro race before the public. Having learned that they are able to make a living out of their troubles, they have grown into the settled habit of advertising their wrongs — partly because they want sympathy and partly because it pays. Some of these people do not want the Negro to lose his grievances, because they do do not want to lose their jobs. “

Booker T. was a fine man that stressed personal accountability internal fortitude to accomplish any goal that a one may have.  He was a native Virginian (like me), and I have been to his home in Franklin County several times.

If the above isn’t a statement that applies to Jackson, Sharpton, et. al., then I don’t know what is.

Al Sharpton’s ego is bigger than I had imagined if he thinks he can shut down one of the biggest cities in the world.  I’ve never really liked him, but he does raise a great point with this story.  It seems like we hear about this all the time with cops abusing their power. Our judicial system is extremely flawed and I hope Sharpton’s pray-in does change something because we definately need it.

al GOD sharpton stirs trouble with a big stick——-t——-.

BamaBob, I agree with you that Al Sharpton is a person only interested in promoting himself. Having said that I must now say that I hope he shuts the city down for a day. From everything I’ve read and seen, those three officers acted like complete rookies from start to finish. And let’s face it, 50 shots between the three of them? With no shots being directed at them? Give me a break… But the one thing you can count on are the civil suits that are coming. At least there will be some justice to this mess.

I agree… It seems like Al Sharpton is more interested in the focus on himself rather than the cause…

That was a terrible incident and it definitely appeared to be an over reaction to the given situation.  But, I just don’t care for this Sharpton guy.  He epitomizes the race baiters described by Booker T. Washington in a speech made in 1905.  It is not in his interest to build bridges between humankind and pave a road toward a needed reconciliation.
