EXTON, Pa. (AP) - A letter handwritten by Mobile's Hank Aaron
early in his professional career sold for $24,150 at Hunt Auctions,
setting what is believed to be a record for a modern player's
penned note.
The letter sold Saturday, dated Nov. 22, 1951, is written to Syd
Pollock, the former owner of the Indianapolis Clowns of the Negro
Leagues.
Also, late baseball commissioner Bowie Kuhn's personal
collection sold for a total of $162,575.50, and a 1948 Leaf Sammy
Baugh No. 34 football card broke a record for a card of its kind
with a hammer price $37,950.
The card was part of an estate collection of high grade 1948
Leaf Football Cards that sold for a total of $105,455.
