U.S. Border Patrol Agents say they have arrested 17 illegal aliens and 2 drivers following a traffic stop on the interstate.
A white rental van was pulled over on east bound I-10 near the Grand Bay exit around 6:30 this (Thursday) morning. Inside, U.S. Border Patrol Agents say they found 17 undocumented immigrants and 2 drivers.
Robert Fuentes is the Deputy Chief Border Patrol Agent for the New Orleans region.
Fuentes says one of the suspects in the van attempted to run away from the scene, but was captured a short time later on the north side of the interstate.
Fuentes says smugglers routinely use large passenger vans to transport illegal aliens and drugs from the Southwestern United States to the Eastern Seaboard.
He says they expect to find out where the van was going after talking with the suspects.

Personnally, I don’t care how much it costs to get here. That is up to the Government Offices to decide. I wish you well in your lengthy indevor to try to save the illegal alien’s but as for this conversation, I rest my case and will stand strong in saying that if they are illegal, they should be sent home. If they are not, great I wish them the best. Thanks for your input anyway. LSU Football is starting soon and I truly care about this as it is real also. Good day to you.

UOP, CJ: They are obviously not sending home millions of dollars, especially since we all agree they work for substantially less pay than Americans are willing to.  Do you know how much it costs to come here legally, unless you are a refugee?  I disagree with you that this is absurd. Dialogue leads to ideas, which lead to solutions.  This happens to be something I care about deeply.  I am sure we all have things we are willing to fight for. For some people, it’s social issues, for others, Alabama football, and then maybe there are those who just want to win an argument. This is real to me, not a debate match just “for the sake of arguing.”

To randyp: I respect the soundness of your point and the polite tone of your entry.  Your opinion/point seems informed and based on more than hate. I wish you well in your employment situation.

P.S. If they illegals were made legal, would they demand more money then?  If so, how would the job market handle this?

I did not misread your question and I answered your question. What difference does it make if they are not Mexican? I never said that it was Mexican’s. That just so happens to be the Nationality that was arrested in THIS case. If there are those who are sending money back home to their families, then why is it such a problem financially for them to abide by the United States rules and laws to get here? I feel that this conversation is obsurd and you are missing the entire point. They could be Mexican, African or Indian, it is still illegal for them to come here without paying their dues as the rest of them have.

I respectfully suggest that you misread my question. It was regarding LEGAL immigrants. There is a reason they’re legal, and it’s far more complicated than just, “yeah, they followed the rules.” Further, I have been told that I would argue with a brick wall, but I am not arguing for the sake of arguing. I am passionate about helping people.  I object to a hypocritical system that allows people who can pay and afford the long wait into the country, but not poor people.  A lot of illegals have zero access to the kinds of dollars it takes to be “legal” and they have not the luxury of months and months of waiting. Families’ well beings are at stake.  I guess I wonder if it is really the legal thing or the color of their skin and their perceived lower class.  Can you understand where I am coming from? When I asked you to think about the LEGAL immigrants, I was hoping you’d see that they were distinctly not Mexican.  If we only care about their being illegal, why not make it more easily attainable for them to come here legally?

I will address one of your questions however. You asked “Where are most of our legal immigrants from? What color is their skin? What kinds of lives did they leave behind to immigrate here?” You are contradicting the entire idea that they are illegal. It doesn’t matter where they are from, what color is their skin and what kind of lives they left to immigrate here. The point is this: if they come to the United States legally, I do not have a problem with that. If they are sneaking, hiding and being smuggled into the United States, I have a problem with that. The Law Enforcement has no way to idenitfy these illegal alien’s if they commit crimes here. The idea is “THEY ARE ILLEGAL AND SHOULD NOT BE HERE!!!”

It appears that you are just arguing to be arguing. I voiced my opinion and as far as your questions to me, I am not obligated to answer to you. I gave my personal opinion and I will stand with my opinion. I totally agree with Randy. Why should we have to drive further or accept lesser when it is our Country from the get-go? If they (illegal aliens) can not enter our Nation correctly and honestly, then they should stay out. Regardless of their Nationalilty. I work very hard to have the things that I have and will not be forced out of anything because of the illegal immagrants!

You missed my point engthr.  No distance is to far to travel to feed my Family. I am 45 years old and applied here in Pensacola for jobs, only to get offered 11 dollars an hour. The employers can get Illegals for 7-8 an hour why would they want to pay an American citizen when they can pay Illegals under the table and not pay ins or give them benefits. I make more in New Orleans thus the traveling and having my family with out a father for 3 weeks a month. And welfare is out of the question for me that is for people that really need it. and I am able bodied.. If the Illegals were out of Pensacola wages would go up a bit and work would be more plentiful. and I could afford to stay home in my city in my Country Illegals get out....

OK. I get it. You object to the illegality of their being here. So, my question to you is this: Where are most of our legal immigrants from? What color is their skin?  What kinds of lives did they leave behind to immigrate here? Then look up “The New Collosus,” the poem inscribe on the Statue of Liberty. It doesn’t say, “Give me your citizens who are educated and can afford the $8,000 immigration costs.” This land, the one that my son fights for as a military person, is a country made by the dejected, poor, starving immigrants who settled it.  We are all immigrants somewhere down the genetic line.  This, to me, is like a family of rich brats fighting over who’s getting the biggest piece of the trust fund, when they’re not even the ones who worked to create and preserve it in the first place.
And yes, this is a debate about jobs, etc. That is the very premise of most objections posted here.  “They’re taking our jobs, making us stand in long lines at Wal-Mart, sending their money back to Mexico” You yourself even brought it up in one of your blogs.

The objection that I have is this. THEY ARE ILLEGAL!!! If they were to come into this country legally, it would not be an issue at all. If you recall the story headline is 17 Suspected Illegal Aliens Arrested. This is not a debate about how many American residents are on welfare or do not have jobs. It is about being illegal! There are several different nationalities that live in the United States who came here legally and hold true to the work ethics and beliefs of the United States. I applaud those people. However, if they are being smuggled in and are taking the risk of being caught, then they should be sent home.
