A 12-year old boy, who authorities say, was on Dauphin Island with his family turned up missing around 7:00 o'clock Saturday night.
He was last seen swimming with family members near the Dauphin Island Pier.
A family acquaintance tells news 5 the family is from New Orleans, and had been vacationing on Pensacola Beach. They made a side trip to Dauphin island on their way home.
The Mobile County Sheriff's Flotilla, U.S. Coast Guard and Dauphin Island Police and Firemen are all assisting in the search.
The boy was last seen wearing orange shorts, a white shirt and he had a neon green cast on one of his arms.
Earlier in the day, the Coast Guard pulled 6 swimmers from the rough gulf waters off Dauphin Island.
One man drowned in the gulf off Gulf Shores and authorities say at least 5 swimmers were rescued.

We probably are better informed and aware of anything now than in the past, but I know some currents move closer to the shore than at other times and that would be a possibility and probably deserves closer scrutiny. It would be interesting to know.
