Viewers called us complaining about the mess in Axis on Old Highway 43.
They wanted to know why nothing is being done about the dead cars, old batteries and scrap metal on a piece of property. We couldn't find the owner but verified with the county that he hasn't even been issued a warning!
So, why isn't the law being enforced?
We took that question directly to Mobile County's Deputy Administrator Glenn Hodge. He says they had to hire a staff and wait for the personnel board to fill those spots. "We hope to have everything up and running hopefully by May 1st. I know this is important to the commissioners and we're doing the best we can. We just don't want to go out there and do something that doesn't work. We want to make sure it's all in place and the officers are properly trained when we write that first citation."
By the way, citations will start at 150 dollars a day and can go up to 5000 bucks!
If you see a property owner stashing junk, call the Environmental Enforcement Department at (251) 574-7867.

I am sooo glad this law is going into effect! I can’t tell you how sick it makes me to look across the road and see old run down cars, knee high grass and just all out junk in the neighbors yard. We even went and offered to help clean it up but was denied! Thank you sooo much for this law…
