No one likes getting a parking ticket, especially one you didn't deserve. One driver says that's what happened to him in Downtown Mobile. Now, Mike Harris is ready to go to court over the 10 dollar ticket. Harris says he was written up last month for an expired meter. But, he says he still had time left on the meter. Harris says he has pictures taken that day to prove he still had time left on the meter and he says he was ticketed for a meter space he wasn't parked in. Harris says the ticket was for meter 140, when he says he was parked in 141," it wasn't but 10 dollars, but you know its kind of the principal of the thing and if it happen to me how many other people is it happening to also," said Harris. We tried to get the Downtown Parking Diplomats side of the story, but we were told by a manager they are not allowed to comment on news stories. He referred us to the city. We were then referred to everyone from the Mayor's office to the Chief of Police. We're still waiting on a call back from the Mayor's office but Mobile Police say the Chief has nothing to do with appealing parking tickets. Harris is scheduled to go to court next month.

Well I hope he fights it to the end because I am one of the girls that was with him and I am the one that was taken the pic. and for the person that said he must have put more mmoney in the meter.  tell me this how do u put more money in and put it on 14 min for every quartor you put in it puts 25 min on the time so tell me how we did that.  because if you look at the pic. he has and i also have a copy there is 14 min left on the meter and they ticketed us for the wrong meter.  this is just mobiles way of making more money.  well already give them enough but no they have to try to cheat us out of more!!!!!!!!!!!!

Yep! That’s about what I figured it would cost a person who was working. If you’re gonna fight city hall or any other government office you’ll have to take on a Kamikaze’s mentality. You will loose some, but what will it cost the city ? If enough people fought them in court those hired meter maids would get shy about dropping a ticket on a car unless they could prove it. A while back it got so bad in a bigger city and they had so many people fighting their tickets in court that the meter maids had to take a picture of the meter and the car in the parking space. Now I think that would end all controversy here also.

Basically just pay the $10.00. Look at it this way. You probably payed someone elses ticket by mistake. O well. I am sure that person would pay you back if they knew you and what happened. Anyway how many times has money fallen in your lap for free?

What? Do you think anybody in the City Government cares? Let me give you some advise. Been down that road and done that. The system is set up so it will cost you a lot more than the price of the ticket if you protest that ticket. Every other person that gets a ticket wants to protest. The following is how the system detours protesters. First your tickets range from $10 to $125.00 in most cases. You get a $10 ticket. You take off work to go to court. You plea “not guilty”. Judge sets a trail date so the officier that wrote the ticket can appear. You take another day off from work and show up for court. The officier does not show up because the City does not want to pay that person for a whole work day sitting in a court room to protest a $10.00 ticket. The $10.00 ticket is dismissed and you go home. You have now lost $200.00 in wages or vacation time. You have probably lost over $10.00 is fuel to go downtown and lets not mention parking cost. Who wins????
Not you.

Whooo WHooo are you who who. Grissom and his Viva LAS VEGAS team whould have this knocked out in no time. I think I would sue for attorney fees and court costs, make it cost them if you think you’ve been wronged or pay the man and consider it a lesson learned about shopping down town. who-who who-who.

Mobile is getting rich off of this?  What does that mean?

I was kidding about the situation and would probably fight for the principle as well. However, he is in a he said/she said situation and that will not get him very far.  He would need an unbiased witness and that probably would not carry that much weight with the judge.

Also like he said its not just about the $10. Hell I would give him the money if that were the case, but if Mobile is doing this to numerous people then theres alot of people paying the $10 and Mobile is getting rich off of this.
