PORT-AU-PRINCE, Haiti (AP) - Tropical Storm Gustav built toward
renewed hurricane force today as it drove toward Jamaica, while
many miles away, New Orleans watched it with a nervous eye.
Gustav - the cause of flooding that killed 23 in Haiti and the
Dominican Republic, was nearly stationary about 80 miles east of
Kingston, Jamaica, but it was expected to run west-southwest, very
close to Jamaica later in the day.
Maximum sustained winds were near 70 miles-per-hour and it could
become a hurricane again soon.
The storm is projected eventually to reach Category 3 force.
Forecasters say Gustav might slip between Mexico's Yucatan
Peninsula and the western tip of Cuba on Sunday, then March toward
a Tuesday collision with the U.S. Gulf Coast - anywhere from south
Texas to the Florida panhandle.

This is an interesting site.  You can click on the different models and see their projected path.  A few of them still have Gus coming toward us.

sorry should have said oil rigs in gulf.

Posted by rosepetal on 08/28/08 - 11:23 am • Report Abuse

gas prices are going up because of the oil rigs in the gulf. those gas stations is grandbay could be out because of their fuel supplier problems. the weather channel is forcasting the north central gulf coast.

I need to go get a gas can! Went to wal mart all they had was one gallon ones and they were 7 bucks and i was like no way!

I’m not for sure bamaboy but it should start now! We already pay too much for gas!

Posted by loveitorhateit2005 on 08/28/08 - 8:44 am • Report Abuse

Gas stations are already jacking up the price of gas they already have in their underground tanks.  They say it is because offshore production will shut down while Gustav passes through.
.
They bought that gas for a price and were selling it at a profit.  When does something like this turn into gouging?

Posted by BamaBob on 08/28/08 - 8:15 am • Report Abuse

I live in Grandbay and last night we had 2 stores out of gas. I spoke to one of the attendants and she said it would be atleast monday before they got gas in depending on the storm.

To me it looks like the same high pressure system off the eastern coast of Florida that pushed Gustav south and west will eventually turn it northward steering it into the gulf.  Beyond that it is a crap shoot.
