One person said he knew Hopkins and helped feed his children.
Daniel Maharrey said he and his wife knew the Hopkins family when they lived at 401 Commerce Street.
Maharrey said three weeks before the discovery of Arleltha Hopkins body, Anthony Hopkins was at his place of business.
Maharrey said, "He (Hopkins) was not a preacher. He was a man that was going to use whoever for whatever gain he could get out of life."
Maharrey owns a Christian book and music store in Jackson.
He said Hopkins, his wife, and their seven children left Jackson about four years ago and told people they were moving to the New Orleans area.
Hopkins later returned, with an eighth child.
But Maharrey said he and his wife didn't see Arletha.
Maharrey said, "He told us that she had died during child labor, so when he did, my wife started asking about her and all of a sudden he's gone. Just that quick, he's gone: walked away."
Maharrey said he and his wife helped feed the Hopkins children.
When asked if Hopkins ever asked him for money, Maharrey said, "To be honest with you, yes, sir. He actually put out a letter and said how people would be cursed if they didn't give him money."

oh give me a brake. That man MURDER his wife and stuffed her in the freezer. No man of GOD would do that. He is a Murder. He should rot in hell for what he did to his wife and children. God will make sure he gets what is coming to him. He IS not a real man. You are nuts if you think like that. Real men dont kill there wife and RAPE his own children. Real men kill people like that. So take that god will help him and shut up cause god dont forgive peple like that.
