It's prone to cause drama in the online world. And, according to the New Oxford American Dictionary, it's the word of the year. "Unfriend" beat out a tech-heavy field that included "netbook," "hashtag" and "sexting" to take the annual honor. WKRG News 5 has been the CBS station in Mobile, Alabama since 1955. The affiliate debuted a new slogan in July 2004, News5, Coverage You Can Count On, in conjunction with WKRG's 50th year in broadcasting.




The evening news desk is helmed by Mel Showers and Rose Ann Haven, who anchor the 6 and 10 p.m. news. Mel also co-anchors the 5 p.m. news with Holly Ames.




Morning newscasts are helmed by Bill Riales and Jennifer Abney. Chief meteorlogist is Alan Sealls, with meteorologists Jere Hough, John Nodar and Jene' Young also contributing weather reports and other newscasts.




Rounding out the News 5 Team are sports director Randy Patrick, and news reporters Kimberly Curth, Tiffany Craig, Kesshia Peyton, Debbie Williams, Steve Alexander, Pat Peterson, Jessica Taloney, Chris Frye and Chad Petri.
