Kesshia Peyton - Anchor/Reporter
If there's one thing to know about Kesshia Peyton, she's a down to earth person who loves to talk about anything under the sun! You can find her chatting it up every morning on News 5 at Nine. The best part, her co-anchor Meterologist Jere Hough doesn't mind listening! After getting off the anchor desk, Kesshia is still talking, this time to the wonderful folks of the Gulf Coast, where she reports on stories that affect the community.
Kesshia joined the WKRG TV 5 news team in 2004. She began her career as a producer at WLTX in Columbia, South Carolina. Kesshia has also worked at television stations in Ohio, Florida and Alabama.
During her career, she has received several awards for her journalistic excellence including an Ohio Regional Emmy for coverage on a deadly tornado in Xenia, Ohio.
Kesshia is a graduate of the University of South Carolina. "Go Gamecocks!" She also received a Master's degree in Journalism from the University of West Florida.
During her spare time Kesshia speaks to youth groups spreading her motivational self-esteem message: "I Love Myself and I Am Great!" She's empowered by the words of Marianne Williamson, "We ask ourselves, who am I to be brilliant, gorgeous, talented and fabulous. Actually, who are you not to be?"
She believes you can learn some of life's most valuable lessons through community service. Kesshia's passion for helping others dream bigger dreams than they could ever imagine has earned her congressional recognition from former Ohio Congressman Tony P. Hall for her volunteer work as an Ambassador for A Special Wish Foundation.
Kesshia serves on the board of directors for the Press Club of Mobile. She is also the organization's vice president. Kesshia is a member of the National Association of Black Journalists and devotes her time to mentoring to students.
Mrs. Peyton also teaches Business and Professional Communication and Broadcast Journalism at the University of West Florida.
Her hobbies include making jewelry, watching movies and reading. She's married to Randy Peyton.
