Two families in Century are living without the basics after a tree crashed into their homes thanks to Tropical Storm Fay.Fay may have fizzled when she reached our area but not every one dodge her fury.
A huge oak tree lays across part of Annie Ruth Smith's home, all compliments of Tropical Storm Fay.
"It was raining not too much wind blowing," she says. It sounded like dynamite but no one seemed to hear it but her.
The old oak tree, rotten and diseased hit Smith's home and her neighbor. While the tree falling is bad enough, Smith says if it had fallen in a different direction, it would have been disastrous. "My two sons were back there when the tree fell. It fell to the left, if it had fell to the right they probably would have gotten killed."
Known more for her unpredictable path than her strength, Tropical Storm Fay left quite an impression on Smith, one she won't soon forget.
Smith is still living in the mobile home, even though it leaks and has no electricity. She is working with the American Red Cross to find a new place to live.
