MOBILE, Alabama - In Mobile County, forecasters are taking the lead in tracking Ida. Officials at the National Weather Service say they're closely watching this storm. More weather experts are staffing the building today, 11/8/09. They say Ida has the potential to be a major wind event in our area.

“This is a storm in the gulf that is going to come very near the coast line and move inland and with that it doesn't matter what it's called the potential for power outages exist,” says Jeffrey Medlin with the National Weather Service. Medlin says they continue to assess the potential impact of Ida. He says it could cause fairly significant flooding issues in low lying areas.
