MIAMI (AP) - Government forecasters are lowering their outlook
for this Atlantic hurricane season after a quiet start with no
named storms so far.
The National Ocean and Atmospheric Administration on Thursday
updated its forecast for the six-month season that runs from June
through November. The peak months are August through October.
They now predict a near-normal to below-normal season as the
calming effects of El Nino continue to develop.
They forecast seven to 11 named tropical storms, down from a
range of nine to 14 in the preseason forecast in May.
Three to six storms could become hurricanes, less than four to
seven in the earlier forecast. The new projection says one or two
hurricanes could become major storms.

They will not let me post anything about my parent’s and their, When I was your age, comment. Oh well. Yes, I must have been confused mike. Definitely was not around or in the womb then.

i hope they are correct. i am just getting cleaned up from ivan this year.

minimay87 I’m just assuming you where born in 1987.  Camille was in 1969.  LOL.  I’m 1985 so I wasn’t around then either.

That sounds just like my dad. I remember many of storms were he would be on the porch with a camera looking for a funnel cloud. Just grab him a six pack a chair and he was happy. I like watching the storm chaser stuff on t.v. Has always fascinated me. However I get my gracefulness from my father so putting me in a situation were accuracy is key would not be wise for me.

I’m guilty of being one of those tards who gets excited when a hurricane is coming.  I always wanted to be a storm chaser.  Although now not so much.  Just bought my first home a few months ago.  I don’t think it would be fun trying to clean up and pay the deductible on any damage.  Owell.

Yeah. Always better to be safe than sorry. I believe I was at my great-grandparent’s during Camille. That is if I am thinking of the right storm. I was in elementary school then. So it would had to have been around 15 years or around that time frame.

I’ll never forget seeing those large ships on dry ground on the Mississippi coast after Camille. The motel where we were staying on the beach, wife and kids, before it hit,you couldn’t even tell where the Motel and pool had been afterwards. We decided we had better head home in case this storm got bad and a good decision it was.

I feel ya! I am not going to wait to see if the sucker turns! There is not much you could do by staying here if something that strong was coming head on. My husband would not let me stay, even if he had to for his job. My step-dad always gets called out right before or in the case of Ivan, during the storm for relief efforts since he is in National Guard. So it always was just us girls taken care of each other during a storm. I would pack up my daughter, drag my mother by her feet, cause she can be a little stubborn and book it!

I was in Tillmans Corner during Camille. Just about every large oak tree was uprooted in the neighborhood. It was a hairy storm that far east.

Camille was the mother of all hurricanes in it’s strength! If it had been as big as Katrina I believe we’d still be picking up the pieces.I don’t usually run from hurricanes but if there was another one as strong as Camille, all you would see of me would be my tail lights headed way north. Here’s hoping Camille and Katrina were just once in a century happenings.
