NEW ORLEANS (AP) - Homeland Security Secretary Michael Chertoff
says hotel bills for people who fled Hurricane Gustav will be paid
by the Federal Emergency Management Agency if those people register
for assistance.
Chertoff made the announcement Wednesday at a news conference in
Baton Rouge with Governor Bobby Jindal. It was unclear whether
bills of people who have already checked out of hotels following a
brief evacuation would be covered.
Chertoff said the hotel aid was designed "to make sure that
people don't feel economic pressure to return home prematurely,
before it's safe."
It was unclear whether other evacuation costs, such as fuel and
food, would also be covered under a recent presidential disaster
declaration. FEMA spokesman Manuel Broussard said that while such a
determination is being made, evacuees should save receipts for
gasoline and other expenses and they should register with FEMA by
calling 1-800-621-FEMA or goig online to www.fema.gov.

Has there been anything said about helping to pay back some of us who housed people from Louisiana? I have family there and they fled for Gustav. We were not notified by them that they were coming so when they popped in, we couldn’t turn them away since there were no hotels available anyway. Is anyone going to help pay the increase of the grocery bill, utility bill, water bill etc.? I can understand wanting to help them but, what about those of us who put up to help them as well? There were 15 additional people in my single wide mobile home. Just curious!! I will say that Louisiana Governor did a much better job with Gustav than with Katrina.

Wonders who is funding Alaska since they don’t pay the same taxes you and I pay and they are getting dividends from the oil taken out of their state. They got smart and increased their taxes on oil. So, how will DRILL DRILL DRILL help us? We pay higher taxes, ConnocoPhilips sends it on…

“The state of Alaska gets $49 of every $120 barrel of oil ... not counting other fees. ConocoPhillips says that once royalty payments and other taxes are added in, the state of Alaska gets 75% of the value of every barrel of oil.”

So, if you believe the whole tax thing, consumers here are footing the bills that are being stuffed in the coffers of the state of Alaska. But that’s only if you believe in that sort of thing.

Follow the money. The emperor has no clothes.

Oh, believe me, I won’t be voting democrat. I would give the shirt off my back to help anybody out, but after the first shirt, they need to find a new clothing store.

AMEN Kris!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Well Kris-don’t vote Democrat. I believe it was Guillano or maybe Huckabee last night who stated that the difference between a Republican and Democrat is that Republicans want to work for their money, while Democrats want to wait for the government to support them-something to that effect, but true. Anyway, the RNC was awesome last night!

Well BamaBob, what was your take on Sarah Palin last night????

I am so sick of government handouts.  This should never have been started in the first place because now people expect it.  I think all the “FEMA users/abusers”, should be lined up and each taxpayer given the opportunity to take one.  We are already paying for one, two or maybe more. Then, have the government pay to have the women’s tubes tied and the men a vasectomy and maybe there will be some money left in social security for when it comes time for me to retire. I work two jobs to have what I own and I’m really beginning to wonder why I even work.

Thanks BB!

The Forum doesn’t seem to get all that much use, so I decided to make an O/T comment here to say I started a topic about Palin’s speech tonight.  Might be fun to discuss the speech as it is given and afterward.

Are they going to reimburse the people they put on buses, trains and planes too? Do they reimburse people after the wildfires in California or the tornadoes/floods in the Midwest? Come on, we all know there are risks wherever we live. Is it really the Federal Government’s-ie our tax dollars-responsibility to pay for stuff like this? I think NOT!
