Parts of the new west end public beach on Dauphin Island won't reopen until Wednesday.

Waves from Hurricane Dolly flooded low-lying areas Tuesday. About six inches of water covered the parking lot and recreational areas.

Mayor Jeff Collier said the protective berm stretching along the west end prevented flooding in other areas of the island.

The beach was partially reopened this afternoon and will return to full operations tomorrow.

It is a beach. They get wet. The sand moves. Unless we want to look like New Jersey and pile 15 foot high levees or rip rap in front of our beaches, we just have to accept that water moves the beach and FLOODS.

Baydream,

Rnuts was talking about Hurricane Dolly. You’re talking about Tropical Storm Edouard. Two different storms.

Who says the storm was 600 miles away? Get your facts straight. Yesterday morning it was just 150 miles due south of Mobile!

It’s the same money tree the residents have used for years and years rebuilding beaches.. developing shifting sand, replacing washed out roads over the years.

Whomever built this “west end resort” must have plenty of money to blow, because he is going to have to keep doing this over and over!!  Man, I wonder where his money tree is located.

Well, it is an ISLAND. Does that term mean anything to people?

$20.00?  LOL! Did they not know that is what was going to happen? DUH!

Not good. There was allot of money spent on this beach just to be damaged by a storm 600 miles away.
