MOBILE, Alabama - The men and women at Sector Mobile have to keep a close eye on severe weather conditions. In the event of a hurricane the operations hub at Sector Mobile has to be ready to move. Their communications center is transplanted from Broad Street to the Aviation Training Center in west Mobile. The move keeps the coast guard operations center online and away from possible rising tides near their primary location.

“[There’s] certain functionality we want to make sure we have in place immediately after the storm, we want to be able to talk to everybody on the water and to respond to those in need after a storm,” says Planning and Contingency Officer Lt. James McKnight. McKnight says the move isn't anything drastic. They prepare by with a drill for it every year.
