MILTON, Florida - In case of emergency NAS Whiting Field is ready. The base was recently designated "StormReady" by the National Weather Service. Emergency management officials there take extra effort to prepare for severe weather and other dangerous situations. It's the first naval air station to receive this designation.“It's recognition of our commitment to our populace on the base that we are constantly trying to train them and to be aware of the changing weather conditions in the gulf coast,” says Emergency Manager James Walsch. Walsch says they need a 24-hour warning point and emergency ops center to be certified storm ready. To see more of the base, don’t forget to tune in to our first Hometown Tour of the season at 6 pm this evening.
