It's hard to know what if anything should be done to the ten- (or twelve, depending on your source) -year-old boy in California who burned down 38,000 acres and 21 homes and forced 15,000 people to evacuate, not knowing if there would be anything to return home to.
Yes, he's just a kid. But good grief, shouldn't someone be held responsible for such a horrific catastrophe? No, he didn't do it deliberately. (Or did he? How will we ever know?) But his actions changed thousands of peoples' lives forever and caused destruction like most people will never see in their lifetime. Many people think the parents should be held responsible, but I've never been one to blame moms and dads for everything. I've seen too many good parents whose children are incorrigible to think that parents are always the cause.
I can't imagine being someone who lost every single thing they'd ever worked for, everything they love…and know it was all because some kid was just fooling around with matches…or lighting them "for fun".
