Yes it is true. You can carry a gun BUT, it has to be concealed and also have a permit to carry a gun. I carry a pistol everyday of the week I have guns in my home all of which are loaded 90% of the time But I know how to fire each and every one of them. I also go to the firing range and practice every week. I have had police officers show me defense with my pistols and when and where they should be used. I am a female in my 50's and that is the target of most robberies. So beware I DO carry and WILL SHOOT.
I have been watching this post for several weeks and have began to wonder which would you rather see someone with a firearm in plan view .Or to have one placed in your back that someone had hidden from view .The firearms that are seen strapped to someones hip is probaly a hunting firearm there are a large number of hunters that use pistols for backup or as a main weapon to hunt with it is a sport.
How many robbery's do you think would be stopped by a armed clerk or security. People will think twice before facing a gun for a little money.
Read to laws that were posted in the forum, my father gave me a pocket knife when i was about 10 and i have carried one ever since .My father and all of my forefathers carried good knives and kept them sharp they are part of everyday life and if you look back in your past you will more than likely see the same in you families .They cleaned hogs cut open feed bags dug stickers and splinters out of our feet and they did a good job of cleaning fingernails before going to church.
It's not the gun you see that will hurt you .It's the person who has a gun stuck in his waist band or pocket and would rather kill you for a few dollars that get out and get a job.

Hello,
This is my first post on the WKRG forum. For years I carried a gun with an Alabama permit. That permit expired many years ago. This thread has "moved me to action" and I need to get my permit updated. With the change in the courhouse a few years ago...where does one go to get their permit renewed. What documents should I carry with me? Thanks!
On your property you can own a firearm, no permit necessary. You can even transport it, so long as you don't have ammo in the cab with the gun.
The whole point of a carry/concealment permit is to allow you to be able to carry a firearm on your person for protection.
There have been increased crimes near by home in Central Baldwin and after a near mugging, stopped by the lucky timing of a sherriff's deputy, I've carried a concealed .45 acp on me nearly every day for two years. So long as you have the permit, it's absolutely fair game.
This doesn't give you the right to be stupid with it; you certainly wouldn't jump in the car and drive without proper training. Learn the weapon you intend to carry. Practice safe usage, such as leaving the rounds in the clip but not chambered; be responsible, respect it, shoot it at one of the many area ranges we have and ask questions of those around if you need help.
The places you can't take it in are properties where the owners have decided not to allow it. Disney World, Ballgames, etc. That's a civil matter, not criminal at that point, if I understand correctly.
And the right to carry one concealed, does not include the right to bring it out in the open needlessly. Obviously if someone made you feel uncomfortable with one, they might be missing the point of the concealment permit
Carrying a pistol, once licensed is absolutely within your right and I'm surprised more people don't.
Safety is key.
I guess I should have been a little more clear. My husband drives an 18 wheeler. The man who threatened to shoot him was a co-worker who also drives truck. This man is known to keep his pistol in his company owned truck. The threat was not told directly to my husband but to another co-worker who then told my husband what was said. Saraland didn't do anything because the man did not tell my husband directly that he was going to shoot him he told someone else he was going to do it. (Boy that made us feel safer) Because the man has a permit to carry a conceiled weapon the police could not do anything about it. The employer also looked the other way and blew it of too. I am not against anyone owning a weapon. My husband has hunting rifles but the difference is that you can own a gun responsibly or you can use them for criminal actions. The choice is yours and remember guns don't kill people, people kill people.
In reply to this i drive semi trucks for a living to and also have a pistol permite but her is the deal it is against the federal law to carry a firearm in a commercial vehicle periode contact the local dot office and notify them of this problem
I did contact the Alabama Dot and they said that as long as he had a permit that it was okay. I also called every other state on his usual route and they said that they were reciprical states and they would honor his Alabama permit. although some of them said that he must keep it unloaded. The only state that said that they would put him in jail if they caught him was New York as they have a no gun policy. But you know as well as I do they are not going to search the inside of your truck at dot stops at the scale houses. I don't know why they put laws into the FCMR that they won't enforce but dont go over your hours of service god forbid you need more time to do your job.
