Drop them... <Grin>. Pun intended. <smile>

Really. They are a pain and annoyance. This latest one, does it every time I return to the home page. It's really annoying when I'm trying to go through the list of the news stories.

PS.

Just noticed this... After logging in, the drop down stopped. That's ok. But usually I don't log in when I visit: I just read the stories and take a look at the comments and the Forums. I don't log in unless I want to say something.

Very annoying. I hate them.

However, I seem to always be logged in and the drop-downs persist.

I think they took your advice! Yeah! I have not had to close out the annoying drop downs to read the stories today!

Think GOD for small miracles, I was getting so annoyed by those dang advertisements. It's not like WKRG can really be that hard-up for money, that they have to throw advertisements in our faces every time we want to read the news!

I don't mind the ad's scattered about the page. If I see something I'm interested in I'll look, but when I get on here in the morning before going to work I have limited time. I don't need the aggrivation of dealing with pop-up, in my face ad's.

For the marketing folks at WKRG, THANK YOU for dropping the drop down ad's. I'ts nice to know that you are listening to the readers.

Yeah... So I did; they are back...

Guess the management is more interested in selling ad space than keeping us happy. <Sigh>

You guys should be glad of the site that they are providing us. I have software on my end that blocks ads, so I don't see any of them.

Well I'm not noticing the pop up ads any more. But the ads on the left side of the page end up blocking half of the story. I understand its important to sell ads, but at the expense of blocking content?

Unless you guys are hiring a competent web designer, in which case, where do I send my resume?

I don't think you guys realize that WKRG.com was built from the ground up. The other local news sites, like the FOX site and the NBC site, are just basically templates that the people were given from the head stations. If you look at every FOX site around the country, the all look the same. This site is unique, and custom built.

We have a very competent webmaster, and this is THE BEST local site for news. Everything from the design and layout, to the functionality.

If you don't want to see ads, simply use FireFox, with an extension called Adblock Plus. Firefox also has a popup blocker. I don't care about ads, or where they are put, because I don't see them.

If you want to see what this site looked like before the current version, take a look at http://web.archive.org/web/*/http://wkrg.com

What web browser and version are you using? If you are a web designer/developer i would assume it is a up to date browser. Will you post a specific URL you are seeing this problem and post your browser type and version?

I would like to find out why "the ads on the left side of the page end up blocking half of the story" for you.

We Recommend that you use the latest version of your web browser of choice. If not for Site Compatibility but for you own Computer Security.

I currently test every bit of code on the site using
Internet Explorer 7
Firefox 3 (recommended)
Safari 3
and Internet Explore 6 although we are fazing out support for IE6

Thanks
