I need to find a plan that is affordable outside a group plan or is there a group plan available to me? I do not want the discount card type of plan I want an actual insurance policy accepted by many doctors and hospitals. 80/20 coverage is great with annual deductible choices.

Hello. Your best option is to find a reputable broker in your area with at least 10 years of experience. UHC, B. Cross, Humana and Aetna are four of the major carriers and should be competitive.

Stay away from "value" and "saver" plans, as they tend to be stripped down.

I hope this helps.

My husband and I had Blue Cross most of our married life. It paid almost everything. After he retired, we were forced to take a policy with another company. We paid so much out of pocket that it was unreal. Now that he is on Medicare, we went with the Blue Cross Advantage program and it has been wonderful, so far. We still have the other insurance on me but I keep praying that my health remains good so we don't have to use it. Just paying our share of a hospital stay for me would bankrupt us. In a few more years, I will qualify for Medicare and then I can get the good insurance from Blue Cross. smile
