My name is patricia waller and am writing this to u coz i have been trying to get help from red cross sence i came to alabama from louisana after katrina and all i get is the run around from red cross,and i been trying far 4 years now & they denied me & closed my case file &* said that there was nuttin they can do i did all there work far nuttin i gave all the paper work the requsted & they still turned me down .my case working was suppose to help me but she never done nuttin to help me but get my hopes & dreams all worked up in geting they prices & on things like pluming sewer & well far water i even had a trailor far 2,000 dollars and they never helped me wit nothing but i freind came down here & they gave her a checkand a freind in louisana got a 20,000 thousand check in louisana to get a trailor wit & do what he had to do wit it to get his life back together & me am still working to get my life back together & can’t ,am on a disabilty i never ask far nuttin from no one & this frist time i do i get turned away just so i can look at all the things i got packed awy i will set me up a carport when i can save a the money & i will put al my things out on it & live in it so i have my privice & enjoy my things.i wanna know i can’t get no help .and when i was still in louisana i still never got no help & my poor old mom which is 74 years old & she had here own place & lost everything her sself they never helped her eaither but they going to give a check tro people and we can’t get nuttin i wanna no y .am staying wit frenids but that is besides the point am a relocater down here from katrina & i want some cotton pickening help far me & my mother who is still in louisana & me coz i moved from louisana to alabama & this is my home now & this is where i will stay.i am very angry mad upset & very much disappointed in the treatment that i got from here in geting the help & things that i need after katrina ,my money spends just as good as anyone else i do belive thats lived here all there lives.i made new freinds here & am very happy here where am at.i live on a very lil income from ssi and u can’t save to much on that so tell me what i should do .plz help me .when i try call my case worker at red cross she never would call me back her name was lartha,& her other partner michele & when i call the main person over them all she was instered in wasv how i got her number & her name was kathern something like that it has been so long .& all three of them gave me the run around far 4 years now i got denied this years 08 now u tell me what wrong with this picture.& i have a right to b mad angry upset & anything else i can thank of.yes there r other people out there who don’t have a place to go and am thankfull i got a roof over my head but when the red cross helps some other person and not me & i roam from place to place so i never wear out my welcome i don’t have a placve i can call mine.thank u far listening to me .

This government website has a long list of agencies that help people out when they are having hard times.  You might want to scan through the list and make contact with those that might possibly match your circumstance.

United Way of Southwest Alabama might be able to point you in the right direction as well.

There are also some efforts underway to bring former residents back to New Orleans.  There may or may not be something helpful in that area.

Personally, I only donate to recognizable organizations, but I do wish you good luck.

Have you contacted your Congressman? Usually their offices can provide guidance for people in your position. Also, FEMA is another avenue you may consider.
