This is not the first time I have heard the emergency sirens sound off in the county, but it is the first time I heard them coming from a distance. At first it sounded as though a swarm of bees were trying to build a nest in my attic. As I moved closer to the door, I realized the sound was coming from beyond my walls. Once I opened my door and stepped upon my stoop, I realized what it was.

Man, that was CREEPY!!!!!!

I used to live in Oklahoma when I was alot younger and with in 50 foot of our house was one of the civil defense horns. You have NEVER heard anything soooooo loud as when they go off.

Very, very scary for a 5 year old litle girl outside, minding her own business, playing with her barbies...lol. grin

sjc - that is a sweet reminder of the years that have trickled away and left memories scattered amidst the dusty red roads that embrace our distant thoughts.... SAY WHAT? lol Sorry, I got lost in a tangent keyboard exercise.

For some strange reason your story reminds me of a time I spent beneath a China-berry tree one summer. The sandy soil was barren of growth, because it was our little kingdom in a not so kind world and we had worn it down to dirt. One day a sparrow perched high above and took a very good poop on my 1st cousin. He jumped up whining, crying and running toward the house. He came back all confident and took his seat under the China-berry tree. The bird pooped on him again!

Sadly, that wasn’t the last time my cousin was ####-faced.

Thanks BB, You just inspired my best chuckle of the day!! Every so often I feel just like your cousin and I never quite recall sitting under that China-berry tree.

I'm curious as to why there aren't more warning sirens. I have never heard one in the Semmes/Wilmer area. I hear them routinely tested in the Chickasaw area when I am there on home health visits, and was actually surprised the other day, when they were testing and could only hear it for a a few miles up 43. How is everyone to know if there is a true emergency-I know buy a weather radio!lol-Sorry, haven't got around tho that yet Alan Seales-lol.

Bamabob, you are a hoot. I love to read what you post. I think we have a lot of the same thoughts. Unfortunately, mine aren't so eloquently or (some might say, nicely), put. smile
