It would be very interesting if WKRG would put together some special webcasts that go behind the scenes of news, weather and sports. That would also sure help kill some time for those of us stuck behind a computer most of the day. lol
A much more in-depth look at various stories could be produced for the web that could never fit into the typical time allotment given in the nightly news.
Any story could be taken from the local headlines and be expanded upon. For example, instead of just a story about an accident victim, find out something about the person and his accomplishments. Talk to family and friends; look into how the accident took place, etc. There is a back-story for each and every headline that is reported in a 2-3 minute sound bite.
This is a particularly volatile time for our weather and it will lead into the hurricane season. Why not produce a few internet videos explaining the various conditions in this area that contribute to our climatic environment?
Just a thought…….. mainly because I am bored out of my gourd right now and would love to have something interesting to watch that is specific to Mobile, the Eastern Shore and portions of the Mississippi Gulf Coast.

Another idea…… lol
Give someone a piece of plastic, a car and a handy cam then send them to various eating places in the area and let us know what place has the best seafood, steaks, bbq, sandwiches, etc. You could also grade the places based upon ambience’ in addition to the menu. There are some dumpy places that have great food and then there are very upscale places that have mediocre food. Each type place might fit the bill at any given time and it would be nice to know what is offered around Mobile.
You could start by taking that list published by the Alabama Bureau of Tourism & Travel “100 Dishes to Eat in Alabama before You Die” (who knew Dick Russell’s had great chicken & dumplings?) and concentrate on this general area. Or, you could spend a weekend on the causeway sampling the food and the music offered at some of the old favorites.

One other point, people are much more forgiving of the production quality of webcasts. In fact, I think the imperfections only add to the feeling of a behind the scenes experience. A shaky handy cam or even a webcam mounted on a laptop would do the trick and minimize the time, effort and expense required of a regular television production.

Okay, since I am talking to myself and my many personalities seem to be getting along, I will toss out another idea. lol
This is the time of year people like to break the routine and get away from the familiar. Unfortunately, lives get very busy and it is difficult to break away for very long. So, maybe a 3-Day Weekend feature could be explored for this WKRG website. Using Mobile as the centroid of a circle, determine what distance would make for a comfortable round trip. Then find some interesting places and things for people to do.
As an example, last fall I had family come in from opposite directions to spend a few days and we decided staying at a B&B;in Fairhope might be a fun departure from the usual gathering at my house. We became tourist in Fairhope for a couple of days and it was a lot of fun. It was worth the time, if for no other reason than to hear our hostess tell of the great grit harvest.

I think you have some great ideas BB, I was waiting to see if you would disagree with yourself and get into an argument. You know how good you are at starting them and ending them.

northcountygirl - Point well taken..... I was getting a little upset with myself, because I now want some good food, good music and a 3-day weekend at the gulf. But alas, I will either be cutting grass or watching it rain this weekend.......

I really like all your ideas BamaBob! This line really caught my attention, because I am currently begging WKRG to find out the "rest of the story" on something that was reported earlier in the week. I'm not sure they are hiring right now (your reference to being the one to go around). I offered to be an undercover investigator for them, but alas, no response! lol
I do think the weekend idea is good. How many times have I heard my kids say "there's nothing to do!" I hope they (or someone) will consider your suggestions. By the way, thought you were cleaning up for the junk police?! lol

rmseek1234 - I would like to see them do that as well. Their regular news cast could direct people to this site for the rest of the story and they would probably build a web audience pretty quickly.
Those junk coppers ain't gonna get me! I will just hide in the tall grass in my backyard!!!!!!! lol

I think you better get that tall grass cut before you break some ordinance. I love living way up in the county away from everyone.

If the good Lord's willin' and the creek don't rise that grass will be cut this weekend!
There was a time when I found yard work to be therapeutic, but now I just look at it and go hmmmmmmm. A condo lifestyle might be in my future, if I didn't hate the idea of condo living. lol
