There are consequences in this life. One of those consequences is pregnancy, when someone chooses to have unprotected sex. Do we teach our children to live with those consequences, or do we just tell them that ending a life is always an option?

I am one of your so called "Hard Core Pro Life" supporters, so you know where I stand on the whole issue, but I think we may be missing the boat if we take sides on our stance regarding abortion. His comment was wrong regardless of which side of the fence you are on. Most Pro Choice supporters I know agree that abortion should be legal but there should be strict guidelines. His comment gave the immpression that abortion should be a birth control option regardless of any other options. I do hope these young girls realize all the implication of their choice, whether it is abortion, unprotected sex, or their future ability to have children. The choices they make now will affect the rest of their lives.

You know, BamaBob, I'm getting the feeling you're either trying to be argumentative with me or I've suddenly lost the ability to write a coherent sentence. I believe what northcountrygirl states is the opinion of most pro-choice supporters she knows, that abortion should be legal but there should be strict guidelines. I believe that abortion should not be used as birth control but should be available to women under certain circumstances. I don't think that abortion is always wrong and I don't think that forcing a pregnant girl or woman into giving birth is always right.

That's about as clear as I can make it.

Essentially, we are all in agreement that abortion should not be used as a routine method of birth control and we all disagree with Barack Obama’s stance on the matter.

So you point is...what? That everyone who posts on this message board does not agree with everything that a particular presidential candidate does?

I'm pretty sure no one would argue with that.

But keep it up if it pleases you.

What is your point nab? This is a discussion forum that more often than not deals with whatever happens to be in the headlines from one day to the next. We just had a discussion about a presidential candidate's beliefs on abortion and we learned something about each other in the process.

Why are your feelings about this candidate on your sleeve?

“Look, I got two daughters — 9 years old and 6 years old,” he said. “I am going to teach them first about values and morals, but if they make a mistake, I don’t want them punished with a baby. I don’t want them punished with an STD at age 16, so it doesn’t make sense to not give them information.”

I agree we should teach our children morals and values. But how can you say a baby is "punishment." Anyone with any sense knows that there are consequences to actions-if you play with fire, you might get burned. If you have unprotected sex, you may get pregnant, you may get an STD or AIDS. Sure make the information available, the family is the best place to start, but information is also a phone call away to the local health department.

Just one more stupid comment from someone who should think before he speaks. Wonder if he does make president if he will think before he acts? Scary thought.

In another thread I said I was no longer going to talk politics on this board. I then see another post, this morning, by you, discussing abortion - without mentioning who said the quote within. I responded to your question re were there any thoughts on this subject. Then you badgered me about whether or not I agreed with Obama's stance on abortion - knowing I said I no longer wanted to discuss politics with you.

In my book, that's baiting. Instead of asking me why my feelings about Obama are on my sleeve, why don't you ask yourself why you are baiting me into a discussion I've clearly said I no longer want to have with you? As long as I've read your posts here, I can't say I recall you being a bully, as you are now. Are you trying to make me not only ignore political discussion with you but every other topic as well? I just don't get it. And I don't get you.

And don't bother throwing this back at me because I'm through.

I was 17 and of course not married when I found out I was pregnant with my first child. My soon to be husband wanted me to abort the pregnancy, but I refused. At 17 I got married, graduated from high school, and was a mother soon after turning 18. It was tough, but we made it and now I am helping my 23 year old daughter plan her wedding. She has been the joy of my life and I have never regretted my decision to have her, or my two sons. Yes, getting pregnant changes your life, but who says it has to be for the worse? Life throws you lemons and you make lemonade. Maybe it's part of Gods plan. I know that having pre-marital sex is a sin, but it happened and something good came out of it. You see, my mother had just been diagnosed with breast cancer right before I got pregnant and this was her first grandchild. How appropriate that I was able to give her a granddaughter to bring her joy for the last 4 years of her life.

I like your attitude northcountygirl. There are always options. Babies, planned or not, are not trash to be thrown away. There are way too many options available to consider. Sometimes "surprises" are the best gift of all-I have an 18, 15, 13 and 4 year old. Need I say more?!
