In 2004 Steve Nodine boasted on the county commisioners website of $800,000 dollars that was being spent to build 3.2 miles of concrete walking trails in the Semmes Community. Four years later the project is still not completed. From the Community Center on Moffett Rd to the corner of Ed George Rd has not been touched with the exception of a few park benches on concrete slabs that sit along a wooded trail that attest to their intent. What is the holdup? Similar projects were started in Mobile after this one was initially started and have been finished. I’m not sure but I seem to recall that part of this money for these walking trails came from the Alabama Department of Transportation’s Safe Route to School’s program (SRTS).
