Perdido Bay Water, Sewer & Fire Protection Co. provides my water to my home.  I moved into my home approximately 4 months ago.  My water is brown/muddy.  I called the water company and they claimed it was probably a rusted pipe.  They sent someone out to “flush” my system; however, this didn’t solve the problem.  My neighbor said she has the same problem.  I don’t remember anything mentioned during the closing of my home.  I have also become really sick lately and currently undergoing tests to try to find out why.  I’m wondering if the water in my home may have caused issues with my health.  I am going to e-mail the water company and request they place a filter in my home @ no charge.  When I fill the bathtub, sometimes the water is so brown and cloudy, you can’t really see the bottom.  My mother lives approximately 5 miles away and doesn’t have this problem.

In addition about 1 mile down the road, I smell sewage every morning as I drive around the corner leading up to the main road.  Why would this be?

Mssbass, so sorry to hear about your water/health problems; as an Environmental Scientist and native of Alabama, I can confirm that this is an ongoing problem in the Southern states due to industrial progress; and unfortunately at the expense of most people’s health. I suspect your health problems are most likely due to the water but I would urge you to have your water tested by an accredited lab (preferably one outside the Southern states and that has environmental & community interests at heart). The reason I suggest this is because the U.S. government (EPA) sets their own standards of “acceptable levels” for contaminants despite proven international authority regulations from UNEP and the World Health Organisation.

If you are interested, I can send you a list of accredited labs where you can get accurate results. In the meantime, PLEASE try to buy bottled water for ALL cooking & drinking.
