I am moving to your city (Mobile) in June. What do you guys think of your town. Where should I move. Where should I steer clear of. What is the going rate for a decent duplex or apartment in Mobile. My wife are both engineering students, so we're not rich, but we would like someplace decent. Put it out there. WHAT DO YOU think about your city. Also we both are experienced servers. What does an averge coorperate server make in Mobile. (places like Chili's and Olive Garden) Someone told me that the ecomnomy stinks. Is that true?

I don't live in Mobile so I'll defer those rental costs to those who do. But you should consider living on the Eastern shore. It's a beautiful spot with lots to offer and though some areas (Fairhope, for example) would definitely be more expensive to live, others (like Lake Forest) would not. You could rent a two-bedroom, two-bath apartment or condo in Daphne for about $650.

I don't know where y'all are moving from, but this area is really great, with lots to do and see. And of course we're close to Gulf Shores and Dauphin Island if you like the beach. Like any other city, you'll find those who complain but I think Mobile/Eastern shore is one of the south's treasures.

As far as the economy, there's a lot of growth, present and anticipated. If you haven't already, you should check out the Chamber of Commerce or google jobs and entertainment in our area.

I hope you and your wife will really like it here.

I live in midtown Mobile, apartments around here range from $300-$600 a month, same for the houses. But its not really a nice area. Pretty, yes. But there are a lot of bad areas around midtown. I grew up in West Mobile which is a great area, not quite sure of the cost in that area though. The eastern shore is a GREAT place to live. I lived in Bay Minette for a year and Fairhope last summer. Fairhope, Daphne and Montrose are great places to look into.

Now, resturaunts it really depends on the area. Airport Boulevard has a couple of nice resturaunts (Carabas, Olive Garden). I highly suggest the eastern shore resturuants though. There are a lot of new ones popping up and lots of opportunities. A lot of the businesses around there are also privately owned, which from my expirience I have seen much more from those types of places. I do believe though, that there is a Resturaunt opening on Joachim Street. It may have changed though, They bought out my old Dance Studio (Alabama Contemporary). It was some guys from California that were going to put in a resturuant. That could be promising for money if you don't mind drunks. (After all.. it is usually the drunks that tip the best, lol)

Where will you and your wife be going to school? You said you were engineering students.

Hope y'all like it here =)
