For years we have been calling in complaints about trash in our neighborhood. The (IN)action line rarely worked and I am giving up on the 311 system.Last Monday I emailed a complaint to the 311 system about illegal dumping on Riverside DR. The City responded the next day, but their response was beyond belief. They gave them 10 DAYS to comply. Now since the next trash collection was 8 days later, all they have to do to comply is let their illegal trash pile sit out until the City picks it up. The Mayors staff is making a mockery of his “efforts’ to clean up the City.
This would not be allowed in Springhill or Midtown, or Cypress Shores, but its OK for the Parkway. Anybody want to buy a nice house in a decaying City?

Sorry to hear about the dumping problem in your area. I live in Mid-town, and I have to say we have our fair share of littering, dumping and eyesores here too though. Nobody from the city or mayors office seems to care either. I guess we are in the same boat....and it is sinking! It amazes me how clean neighboring cities, like Pensacola, are.

I live in midtown.  We have a house on my street that has been vacant and decaying for the past 4 years. 

They cut the grass, only when the city tells them to.  So much for the weeds and vines growing up the side of the house.  There is actually a pine tree, growing out of the chimney!  Its been there for the past 3 years. 

So your not alone here.  Midtown has its share too.  And why call 311 on these folks once a month to just get them a reminder the grass needs cutting?  Can’t they put it on their calendar, to cut the grass at least one time a month?

311 is pretty useless.  These folks have been getting away with weeds in the yard, for 3-4 years. Nobody does anything but tell them to cut the grass.

What really gets me though, are the people that throw litter and actual trash from their vehicles. I live on a corner lot, and as people pull up to the stop sign infront of my house, they just conveniently toss their bottles, cans, fast food bags, cups etc. right onto my lawn. This happens nearly EVERYDAY....and NO, I am not embellishing. Once, I came home from work and there were old tires dumped in my yard. I have also returned home to find an actual BAG of trash in my yard. Out of pure desperation, I decided to put on a pair of rubber gloves and dig through it in hopes of finding something that would identify the culprit...but alas, no such luck. My wife looked at me like I was nuts, but I told her that I was sick and tired of people using our yard as a landfill. Does anyone else in Mid-town have this problem? I thought about sitting on my front porch and verbally confronting the individuals that do this, but I really don’t know what good it would do. The police will not do anything about it...yes, I have asked.  Cleaning up other peoples trash from my front yard is not something I enjoy doing. Sadly, it has become a part of my day, just like checking the mail.
Anybody out there have any ideas? Suggestions?

Who is your city Council person? Until you and your neighbors hound them enough to get some movement, they will do nothing.I would suggest a city Council appearance as well. the mayor is insulated by his staff from our problems.Al stokes doesn’t have the problems we have.
