February 14, (Valentines Day) started out a normal day for me, until I (Hailey Owen) got to break after 6th period at FMS. When my boyfriend (Bryant Nelson) warned me that some guys were upset at him thinking that he was rasist. When we got to the break area I had just sat down when about 10 (including a crowd) made its way over to us yelling and trying to fight Bryant, I jumped up, and defened him, trying to keep them off of him and i kept screaming “get away from him” and some of our other friends held him (Bryant) back. As I was fending off the guys, I heard a number of threats made to Bryant, “You just wait till football practice were going to mob you” and “Im going to get you on the streets and stab you” and many things like that. And a threat, made to me by a girl, “im going to slit your throat”. I immediatly called my mom and we both went to the principal and talked to him about it, nothing was done, I gave him names and witnesses, and he did nothing.Bryant went to the police station and filed reports on it, but thats all.  So my mom, Bryants mom, the president of the PTA, and a school board member sceduled a meeting for the next day, to meet with the administration and discuss the matter. I, scared for my life, was not allowed to go to school. That next day ( Friday, February 15) Bryants friend (Dylan Summerville) was told by 3 of these guys that “our older brothers are in gangs and they are going to kill yall” (meaning the 3 of us). And still, at the meeting, nothing was done. When my sister in Foley Intermediate, got home she was crying her eyes out, saying that some kids on the bus had told her that “the gang” was going to kill your sister and her boyfriend, and still nothing has been done. I would like to get this story on the news, or at least let the public know whats going on, maybe to help, and for something to get done about all this.

People threatening to kill should be taken serious. Not saying one should run or be scared, but you should ask yourself now, is this particular fight worth your life? If it is, then of course you should be ready for what this battle you choose to take part in, brings. It might bring death, especially if you are dealing with people who don’t mind verbally threatening to slit your throat. Think about it.

When I was in middle school I never had this sort of situation. I feel very sorry for you young people today, at war with each other at school so early. The principal of your school should be notified IMMEDIATELY, and the police should be called and a report filed. If you don’t do both of those things then I would not feel very sorry for you if those people did follow through with their threats. I would mourn your death but I would think, you had a chance to stop it but you did not. Good luck to you and your friends. I think you might need to make a quick decision to move. It does not sound good, sorry!!

Seems to me they have done both.

You’re right they did file a police report and go to the principal. Whew, what a bad situation to be in for a child. I’d say if the problem continues and the child really feels threatened I’d consider other options. If transferring to a new school can save a life then I’d do it for my child. But I realize some people don’t want to give in, or let the other person win, or don’t think they should be the one to back away from the situation. That’s how things happen . .. it sounds like the bullies, with their threats are dangerous. People should pay attention to such threats. How many people walk around saying “I will slit your throat.” ?  Not many. There is so much violence in schools today I would never send my child to a (public) school . . .it would have to be home school.
Sorry schools, that’s just calling it the way I see it. Only my opinion, etc.

We have been home schooling this past year… Been a very good expeirience for all of us. Why are we home schooling? Violence and incompetence at the schools of course. We didn’t like the school system so we fired them. Works for us.

A lot of parents would be shocked at how big home schooling is in our country. While one hates to point all the blame at public schools, it cannot be denied overall the schools have failed to upgrade their system to the changing times. ( P.S. I might as well be the nice one to tell you this before someone mean does but you might want to use the edit feature here and correct the spelling to “experience.” I’m sure you know how to spell it, just typing too fast?? )
