I just got a call from the automated WKRG 5 Poll thingie. It wasked me about if I voted last Tueday and if I was going to vote Mardi Gras day. At the end, it asked me for my age, sex, and race. No biggies except for the race part.

I am proud of my race but this lopsided Politicaly Correct thing has got me up in arms.

Here were the race choices WKRG's survey gave:
"Press 1 for African American"
"Press 2 For Hispanic"
"Press 3 for White"
"Press 4 for Asian"

Now, doea anyone see what doesn't fit here?

Why do all of these other races get fancy names like "African American" or "Asian" or "Hispanic"?
Why can't I be "Caucasian" or "European American"? Why do I have to be reduced to a color? I guess it's ok to call me white but God forbid we call someone "black".

I guess Political Correctness only aplies to us "whites"?

BTW, why wasn't there an option for Indians? Oh, I'm sorry. "Native Americans"?

A better question is why do you WANT to be? Those are just pretentious labels. Most of my black friends call themselves black. And as far as Hispanic and Asian, what else are you gonna call them? The only one I can see that's out of line is "African American", which I've always personally thought was a rather silly description because it's not really accurate.

My guess is that the pollsters were trying to be PC in order not to offend anyone. I can't imagine they ever thought they'd offend somebody by calling them "white".

But then again who was it who called us a "nation of the offended"?
