Ok, I'm trying something new, since I really hate negative campaigning (and negativity among the people on this website!), please state your candidate and the top 3 reasons you are voting for that individual. And now for the rules......no negativitiy against other candidates/ or posters to this forum allowed, only your opinions for your own candidate!

This is a chance to state what issues are important to you and why your candidate is best!


My candidate: Barack Obama

My top 3 reasons:
1) I believe he has good leadership skills, is well-educated and has the ability to inspire Americans to change this country around. He's inspired me!

2) He sets forth a new plan for health insurance. The private health insurance sector has failed me. I am a college student and forced to pay for health insurance that does not provide any type of preventative care...and well, it actually doesn't provide much of anything for me and it's horribly expensive!

3) I don't believe America should have ever went to war in Iraq. Obama wants to get our troops out of there and see to it that this type of war NEVER happens again!

If the President's moral beliefs mean anything to you, please look his religiious history up. I read something on him that is unbelievably dangerous for him to become our President. Our nation was founded on beliefs "In God We Trust". This is not his beliefs. We will all be in danger if he puts into order the way he wants this country to run. Remember all the candidates will say anything to get your vote, but you will suffer if someone goes into office without a strong religious background that sticks behind "In God we trust". Do your homework before you vote.

LOL! Your rules didn't even work for the very first reply! Nevertheless, I do like your hopeful nature that this thread can be kept in line.

I haven't made up my mind yet who I'm voting for. Getting down to the wire, too, which is making me nervous. But I have narrowed the field down to my two favorites, so can I post about them both?

OBAMA:

My reasons for liking Obama are as much emotional as based on specific issues.

1. Obama is the antithesis of Bush and company and I am beyond ready for a big change.

2. Our president should inspire us and give us renewed confidence that the leader of our country cares about it, and us. I believe Obama wants to do the right thing, and is actually capable of accomplishing what's important.

3. He appears to be honest and doesn't carry a lot of baggage (as opposed to other Democrats who I wll not mention in keeping with the rules of this thread).

PAUL:

I really respect his thoughts on so many issues (low taxes, civil liberties, less government interference, immediate end to the Iraq war, his immigration stance). But do these pros off-set the cons? He's 72 years old. He also has virtually no chance of winning.

This is really a difficult year to know what to do. And unfortunately it's an incredibly important vote this year because there are so many critical issues. And as always, there are no guarantees that the person who ends up in the most powerful office of the United States will in fact do what he promises or what we hope he can.

John McCain gets my vote!

As a Navy wife, I appreciate McCain's dedication to our military men and women and his concern for the security of America.

I support McCain's views on health care. We all have to agree that this is a major issue in the US and something has to be done to get control of the situation. No, I do not have the answers, but then again I am not running for president.

McCain is opposed to spending tax dollars on projects that have no national value. How many times have we complained about our tax dollars going to projects that do not benefit the nation as a whole?

I support McCain's views on the Pro-Life issue. I too am against abortion and agree that there are too many other options available for pregnant women, including options for birth control.

I support McCain's views on marriage and agree that marriage should be between one man and one woman. Enough said on that issue.

I could go on and on with reasons I support McCain, but I have to get back to work.

Perhaps you should cut 2652 some slack. When I started to respond to this, I found the urge to write something negative was almost overwhelming. I’m still not sure I succeeded.

I support Ron Paul, and here are my reasons.

1. Ron Paul is the only candidate who really understands economics, and has actually written books on the subject. He understands how the Federal Reserve operates, what it’s doing wrong, and how it is affecting the economy. He understands that no matter what endeavor you think the government should engage in, whether it is national healthcare, or the war on terror, or subsidies to performance artists, there is an economic element.

To paraphrase his words: No matter what you think of the war in Iraq, we can’t afford it.

2. Ron Paul does not want to expand the government, or engage in meaningless technical changes, he wants to reduce it. That means he wants to stop it from violating civil liberties, he wants to stop the leviathan from gobbling up more of the gross domestic product, and he wants to stop invading the world. He wants to bring back the Constitution. He doesn’t want tax reductions to “stimulate” the economy, he wants to give you back what’s yours permanently, because it’s yours to begin with. He doesn’t want to tell you what or where to smoke, whether you should have a gun, or lecture you about how much fattening foods you can eat.

You may have noticed that many Ron Paul supporters are virtual zealots, some even fanatical. I take this as a sign that there is a growing core of people in this country that are tired of feeling shoved around, spied on, and lied to. History is changed by committed and dedicated minorities. Which leads me to…

3. Whether Ron Paul ultimately wins or not, he is still having a positive impact on the election. He is bringing issues to the forefront that none of the others would have. While his numbers lag behind other GOP candidates, keep in mind they are GOP numbers--the same group of people who nominated Bush twice. (Is that negative?)
The more support he gets, the more the other candidates have to deal with him, and have to adopt his message to appeal to those who support him. This will be especially true if Paul decides to run as an Independent in the General Election, where there is no party barrier to casting your vote for him.
