Well said jlc24! I do not have the education to put it so eloquently. I wasn't insinuating anything about being from the south, I was just curious where nab was from. I also will not vote for Obama, for reasons other than those on the internet. I like Ron Paul's view on alot of things.
That's exactly what I did. I did my research on MOST of the candidates (which just happens to be ALL of the ones remaining in the race) and I made my decision from that. I went to all of their websites and watched most of the national debates. I also utilized websites like FactCheck.org and Politifact.com. I'm the most impressed with the Republican, Dr. Paul. I'm the least impressed with Republican, Huckabee. I used to want to support Obama, but I don't think his ideas are concrete enough. He talks about how he wants to withrdaw all troops from Iraq, but on his site he says he'll leave some in there. He doesn't lay out how he's going to fund all of his health care and foreign aid ventures. And at last night's debates, I don't think either Clinton or Obama ruled out raising taxes! I liked McCain, but I'm concerned about his foreign policy, and after his primary wins, he seemed to be a little smug at the last CNN Republican debate....
If you search the true definition of what a Republican is, and not what the popular misconception is, then I think it will be clear that in a time of recession and wild government spending, the country needs a fiscal conservative. America cannot be a superpower if it's bankrupt! I give my support to the only Republican who proves in his voting record over the past several decades that he is honest and true to his guns.
I don't have to consider because I am voting for Obama . It's good to see some open-minded Mobilians on this forum. I was afraid of what I might encounter here! This being the conservative bible belt and all. Vote for who stands for what you believe in and not because they are "popular" or have "good looks". I encourage people to read up on the candidates and make an informed decision.
I read about Obama and I watched him... I'm not too impressed. He speaks very well, he has a beautiful family, he has many great ideas. But I haven't read about a solid plan to fund his ideas, or to get the country out of its current economic problem. Under the economy section on his website, he has a great "pay-as-you-go" plan for the government to adopt, but that will only work once the defecit has been decreased.
He has a great presence and he speaks about hope and change.... but I don't believe in his ability to succesfully execute "change". My question to you is: Why have you decided to vote on Obama?
jlc24, it's always distressing to be accused of things that aren't true. When one is faulted for saying something they didn't, insinuating something they don't feel, or being someone they're not, whether on a message board, the internet, or in real life, it's not fair.
On a message board it's easy to jump on the bandwagon and attack someone based on nothing more that what others have said instead of what you've actually read yourself. That's unfair to the person you're criticizing, the others who read your posts, and ultimately yourself too...because you then perpetuate untruths to others and continue to believe things that simply aren't true.
Instead of arguing with you and discrediting the things you've said about me, instead I just ask you to go back and read what I've said...what I actually DO believe. Start with the Confederate Flag thread - which I started. Read what I said and what I think and then read what others said to me. Check out the Obama - Blacks Only thread. Between those two, maybe you'll understand how I feel about racism and pride.
Then, go over and read the thread about how the baby-killer should be dealt with. These are the people I was criticizing, not only for the content of their posts but the almost-unreadable quality of their writing. If you're college-educated, and not afraid to admit it to yourself, you'll agree with me that those replies are shameful - not only based on what they say but the way they're written. The only difference between you and me is I say how I feel and you pretend that horrific grammar and indecipherable thoughts on a public message board are acceptable and evidently should be encouraged.
Writing poorly is a choice. Adults know if they write like fifth-graders and should learn to write better. People who can't spell (and that's a LOT of people and doesn't make them anything more or less or better or worse than bad spellers) should choose to use spell-check before hitting send. And folks who are intolerant of other human beings because of the color of their skin or what country they come from or their religious or sexual preferences should change the way they think because it's an ugly trait that makes them seem ignorant and mean.
Now, back to criticizing people based on untruths. Months ago, e-mails started going round about Obama accusing him of all sorts of things, from being a Muslim to being racist to being unpatriotic and more. Even though not a one of these things is true, people who don't like Obama for one reason or another immediately forward these e-mails to everybody in their address book and some of them forward them on and pretty soon there's an avalanche of lies being passed around in cyberverse. Thinking people who question what they read on a message board or the internet will recognize e-mails like these and do the right thing by trashing them. Unfortunately, other people who can't think for themselves and are only able to regurgitate others' opinions will keep the lies going.
Look at it on a more personal level. Let's say that I decide to start an e-mail campaign against you, for whatever reason. I make up something - let's just use the same attack on Obama for simplicity - that you are a Muslim. Of course I don't know you...maybe you really are a Muslim (not that there's anything wrong with that), but for this illustration let's say you are not. But I send out a mass e-mail to all my friends saying "Be careful of jlc24 because this person is a Muslim and maybe even a terrorist and certainly unpatriotic and will try to ruin our country and why isn't everybody in Mobile talking about it!". Then for good measure I go to a few message boards and post the same thing.
Now of course you're completely innocent. You're a Methodist for goodness sake! When this pack of lies, traveling like wildfire, gets back to you you try to put out the flames by sending out your own e-mail and posting the facts on the message board in question. But nobody's listening to you now. They're all wound up and looking for blood. It doesn't matter if you sit in your Methodist church every Sunday morning and do good Christian deeds during the week, everybody thinks you're a Muslim because how could you not be? Too many people SAY you are!
Eventually everybody hates you, except of course for the people who aren't stupid enough or gullible enough to believe everything that gets passed around on the internet, and you're ostracized and criticized and your life pretty much sucks. All because of me and my little fun e-mail and all the people who never cared enough to find out who you really are.
What the WKRG message board needs is more people who can say how they feel without resorting to telling others who don't agree with them to "just leave!", who can write in such a way that trying to figure out what they mean is not like trying to decipher Portuguese, and who aren't so stubborn that they can't click a button that says "spell-check" before replying. Also, it would be nice if folks learn that typing in all caps makes it seem like they're screaming, and that one or two exclamation points are adequate whereas forty are redundant. Notice I did NOT say we need more people who all think exactly alike or believe as I do. I don't think that and I wouldn't want to be part of any forum where every single person held the very same opinions.
Does that mean I expect there won't be squabbles or contentious replies or misunderstandings? Of course not. Everyone doesn't always get along with every other person, whether it's family or friends or strangers on a message board. But a good reminder to everyone would be: before you accuse someone of saying something they did not, make sure it's real instead of something you imagined in your own head. Otherwise you're doing them a grave disservice.
This country is not ready for a black president. Having said black I should add that he changing his skin tone according to the audience.
Having said that, Mr. Obama lacks the experience to be president.
We have to stop supporting a canidate because he/she makes us feel good.
We have to vote for a canidate who has experience, one who has military experience, has a SOUND economic policy, that would be one who understands economics. One who understands the health care system from first hand experience. One who believes that the goverment should ALWAYS operate within the frame work of the Constitution.
THE BUZZING SOUND YOU HEAR IS YOUR ALARM CLOCK, WAKE UP AMERICA!!!!!!!!!!
This country is ready for a black president, but I don't feel that Obama is the one. (although we might get him anyway) I just don't believe he's got enough experience to run this country. He should try again in about 10 or 15 years.
I'm born and raised southern and I'd vote for a qualified black person, red person, green person. If Condoleezza Rice ran, she'd get my vote. She has the experience, both domestic and foreign, education, and good sense to be a excellent president. However, that isn't the point. We shouldn't vote for a person because of color or gender. We should vote for the person that's going to be good for this country and one that doesn't have a personal agenda. We should vote for a person that has convictions and is willing to stand up for those convictions, not one that votes the party line. Of course, this is just my opinion, and like various parts of the body, everyone has one.
