Tragedy happens everyday to someone, somewhere. Not to minimize what the family and friends and community feels about what has happened to the four children, renaming the bridge is not an answer. I agree with the post that we can not rename every bridge, road, etc. when a tragedy occurs. Let us take all of this energy and anger and put it to good use. Make your cries and voices heard to our judicial system, so that the monster that committed this terrible crime will not spend years in prison; being supported with our tax dollars in feeding, clothing, housing and being provided legal counsel, all at our expense. The Dauphin Island Bridge is the Dauphin Island Bridge, just as I-10 is I-10, Government Street is Government Street, etc.

I firmly believe renaming the bridge will not give the angelic children justice. I do believe the bridge being renamed will be a harsh reminder to most of all the family and then the community. These "angels" need to be remembered in our thoughts and prayers. The family, god bless them, will forever remember this horrible accident (Correction--- this act was not an accident. That very sad little coward of what he thinks is a man did not accidentally throw the children off of the DIP Bridge. He did this act without remorse, dignity, shame or moral values. He does not need to be where he is located at the present time. He does not need to be in isolation and he doesn't deserve the 4 life sentences. I for one believe our tax dollars does not need to let this ANIMAL sit on death row and feed his sorry little excuse for a human being for the next 30 years. Kill him... and for those attorneys that will fight for the insanity plea -- please-- have some dignity, walk across the bridge, look down at the very cold water below and then and only then make a decision.) I also feel the family should have a vote in whether or not the bridge should be renamed, especially the mother.... if she states it would be too hard for her then the answer is clear---No. If she states it would be a thoughtful and accepted gesture---then yes. If the mother is okay with renaming the bridge then let's vote. Get the public involved.

After only about an hour of researching the guidelines and protocol of renaming county, state and/or federal hwys, roads and/or bridges , there is little to no way the renaming will ever happen.

Rather than having the children memoralized by an inanimate object (bridge, statue, etc) I propose that we look into a 4 Angels Scholarship to assist working mothers with affordable, safe daycare. I don't mean this as a condemnation of the Mother, as I'm sure she was doing the best that she could. I've been a single parent and I know how difficult it can be. But, perhaps if other day care had been available to her, the children would not have been with this monster.

The GRCMA program is available to help low income families pay daycare expenses. I know there is often a waiting list on that program. The way it basically works is they provide a voucher to participating daycares-you might want to check with them about having funding set up through the scholarship you mentioned. Their number is 473-1060.

I would like to commend the councilmen/women of Bayou La Batre for voting on the Maritime Park in honor of the children. I hope this will be one of many tributes for the children.

I also agree that renameing the bridge is not a great idea. I like the daycare idea however, and maybe alot of the donations should be made in honor of the children. This is what I would vote for considering the children. Had there of been a daycare that would be pubicized, like WIC or Medicaid for children, then the kids may of been here today and the mother would have been at work with no worries from her loser husband.

So by doing this we are going to give this sick guy what he wants huh! Making him famous. Isn't this what wanting when he arrested to be famous so we are now talking about renaming a bridge inhonor of a aweful crime. This is so sad yes we need to remember these children but not remind everyone about something that is unthinkable. Let these Angels rest in peace. Lets not make this animal in no way feel like he has done something. This mother has had enough. Lets just let this family heal if there is a way that this can happen. I can not imagine this. I can imagine a parent of either gender doing this. Lets not forget but lets not remind either. Bad enough he is sitting in a warm cozy cell and being feed three times aday.
