Granted, in consideration of renaming the Dauphin Island's bridge is a rather beautiful and most thoughtful gesture. However, in being most realistic we as citizens of Mobile must consider on the other hand that there will be other unfortunate events in the future (not limited to bridges only).

Are we as Mobilians prepared to rename other venues as such? It will only be fair to all. Each and every unfortunate occurrence is a major loss for any surviving family(ies) and friends alike. What is considered proper for one family should also be considered proper for all citizens (families) of Mobile.

Another point to consider...would such a gesture be cost-effective for Mobile? Can we afford to open up such a "can of worms" Mobile?

I agree with you dspeedster. Will we rename the Causeway after some kid has a tragic accident on it. Or how about it someone is killed on the Cochrane-Africatown Bridge, will we rename that also. I think that if you want to refer to it as "The Four Angels Bridge" that it would be acceptable. Just like we nicknamed the I-65 Bridge over the Mobile River, its not officially the "Dolly Parton" bridge but if you say the nickname everyone knows what you're talking about.

I think that renameing the bridge is a really great thought ~ but if we all remeber this horrible father stated to family and the mother that he wanted to be famous~ and even tho the bridge would be named for Danny Ryan Lindsay and Hannah people will also remember him for what he did also. For as lomg as I remeber it has and always will be the Dauphin Island bridge and I'm sure anyone with a heart will remember what happen on the top of it. If someone is wanting to do something then donate to family for funerals expense or the floatilla ~ so that they may do whatever they need to do to continue their wonderful service. Or I've heard someone said that a picture of the bridge and Jesus reflection on water ~ where he caught these beautiful babies. I do beleive that everyone will remember and I don't think Lam " Retard" Luong should get any fame or anything.

Unfortunately this is truly a horrific act that touches the hearts of everyone. When considering renaming the Dauphin Island Bridge we need to think about it. If a visitor to our area wants to know where Dauphin Island is, we'll tell them to cross the Four Angels Bridge. When they ask how it got the name, we will be compelled to tell them the gruesome story of how our crack head citizens murder their children in Mobile County. Wouldn't that be such a nice way of welcoming visitors to our area?

I like sweet freedoms idea. An angel statue with 4 little kids sitting at its feet. That would be awesome.

Whatever the mother wants is fine with me-that should be our first concern. She may not want anything. People grieve differently. It is great that there are so many that want to memorialize and honor the children. But no one idea should be rejected just because of differences of personal opinion. Like I said, the mom should have the last word.

I agree with most of you, we need to reconsider renaming the Dauphin Island bridge for the children. If we do this we will need to rename a lot of streets, buildings, etc where other babies and really great folks have died an untimely death. I like SweetFreedoms suggestion re: a memorial. I don't want us to forget these babies......or any others....a memorial would be good.

Tragedy happens everyday to someone, somewhere. Not to minimize what the family and friends and community feels about what has happened to the four children, renaming the bridge is not an answer. I agree with the post that we can not rename every bridge, road, etc. when a tragedy occurs. Let us take all of this energy and anger and put it to good use. Make your cries and voices heard to our judicial system, so that the monster that committed this terrible crime will not spend years in prison; being supported with our tax dollars in feeding, clothing, housing and being provided legal counsel, all at our expense. The Dauphin Island Bridge is the Dauphin Island Bridge, just as I-10 is I-10, Government Street is Government Street, etc.

I firmly believe renaming the bridge will not give the angelic children justice. I do believe the bridge being renamed will be a harsh reminder to most of all the family and then the community. These "angels" need to be remembered in our thoughts and prayers. The family, god bless them, will forever remember this horrible accident (Correction--- this act was not an accident. That very sad little coward of what he thinks is a man did not accidentally throw the children off of the DIP Bridge. He did this act without remorse, dignity, shame or moral values. He does not need to be where he is located at the present time. He does not need to be in isolation and he doesn't deserve the 4 life sentences. I for one believe our tax dollars does not need to let this ANIMAL sit on death row and feed his sorry little excuse for a human being for the next 30 years. Kill him... and for those attorneys that will fight for the insanity plea -- please-- have some dignity, walk across the bridge, look down at the very cold water below and then and only then make a decision.) I also feel the family should have a vote in whether or not the bridge should be renamed, especially the mother.... if she states it would be too hard for her then the answer is clear---No. If she states it would be a thoughtful and accepted gesture---then yes. If the mother is okay with renaming the bridge then let's vote. Get the public involved.
