Last July we realized that our check book had been stolen. This person wrote checks to her husband, paid tution at University of South Alabama, paid her insurance.. wrote a total of $ 6,000+ in checks.. She entered our routing number and checking account number online and made online charges over over $ 10,000.
We filed the first police report in July, finally in October after calling the police department weekly, it was turned over to a “new” detective. I had to make copies of all the documention again and take it down there and fill out another statment. Three days later, I was called by the detective that he had misplaced the paper work could I make copies and bring them back to him. For two weeks straight I was at the police department trying to resolve this matter. I had to give the detective this person contact information over and over and whats worse.. he worked around her schedule as when she was to turn herself in. He had all the paperwork together in early November, but waited until after Thanksgiving to turn it over to the DA.
Her warrent was signed and he gave her another week before asking her to turn herself in.
She was arrested on two felony counts!
During the investigation, we learned that she worked for a local doctor and commitited the same crime for 10,000+, but because she wasn’t caught on tape it was rejected by the DA!
The doctor filed a police report also, and now has been trying to contact the same detective and can not get a returned phone call. This is now almost 30,000+ she has been able to steal and she is still walking around, pleading not guilty and we will fight this battle well into the summer.
I have called all three major news stations to cover this story and had no reply.
Shouldn’t the people know, that all it takes is a rounting number and an account number (no other personal information) and someone could take your life savings! The online checks that were ran through the bank, had her and her husdands contact information using our routing number!!! How scarey is that, that the bank didn’t catchit either!
