Boy, this has been going on since the beginning of time. The younger has always tried to find an outrageous way to dress to get attention from their peers and drive the older generation crazy. I agree that the baggy pants look is pretty rediculous. I even a kid almost fall into traffic as he was getting out of his car because his pant were falling down. Getting hit by a car would not have been the attentention he was trying to attract. As parents we have a responsiblilty to give our children values to live by. As adults, we could do a better job.

i am so sorry to hear about this abuse.  If you had done this you would be in court not being an officer of the law.  If anyone else has witnessed this, take the officer to civil court.  He should change his responce after he pays the medical bills plus court cost.  after damages are paid go after the city, you might have more of a case than you think goodluck.

Everyone is so quick to fault the police, but what is the rest of this story. Was the young man belligerent to the officer, did he jerk away and try to fight? Have any of you that are jumping all over law enforcement ever worked in it or even ridden as a citizen observer to see what kind of mess they go through. Most officers make every effort to resolve a situation without the kind of outcome you described. It’s a heck of alot of paperwork and bureacratic bull for just not liking the way someone’s pants look, sir. Maybe you need to question your son further.

And you Jeff must be an ambulance chaser. There are enough stupid lawsuits out there without adding to the pot. So if the guy contacts you(if you are a lawyer), what’s your cut?

Normal - Who is to say what normal is. Normal does not exsist, degrees of disfunction is what we have. We are all free to dress as we wish. We do have standards, I guess the correct way to say this is the baggy jeans do not meet my standards. Allow them to dress as they wish, just realize the community does have standards.

Do you not read? I was in High School in the eighties, looking back the music and clothes were subject of many adult conversations at the time. Look at James Dean and his smokes rolled up in his shirt. Was that stupid? Don’t get me wrong, I don’t like the pants hanging down and the boxers showing either. But look at it this way, the police can catch them alot faster. Bottom line it is about standards, not normal vs non-normal. Who determines the guidelines for normal?

Livinging under the bridge by the Civic center is normal for some, but not for me… it does not meet my standards I have set forth in my life. If we were all what you call normal look at all the things we would not have - police, homeless, McDonalds, drugs, crime, war and we would all be wering the same clothes and living in the same style house. We are Americans, freedom is what our country is founded upon. We are not Cuba or China… we are FREE.  We have fought for our freedom, died for it. If you want a george Orwell 1984 type country then vote for Hillary.

Too bad they didn’t just shoot him or beat him with the billy club.  Oh well, there’s always next Mardi Gras!
