It's amazing how when we live in an area sometimes we never take advantage of the great stuff that's right in our own city.

I've lived here for decades but went to the City of Mobile Museum downtown for the first time yesterday. I highly recommend it for a fun way to spend an afternoon.

It's huge and filled with fascinating things both past and present. And for only five bucks it's a real bargain.

And if you have kids (or even if you don't), right around the corner is the "Grossology" exhibit at the Exploreum which is...well, gross and interesting at the same time.

Ditto! I have lived in Baldwin County for most of my life. I visited the Museum of Mobile for the first time with a senior group I was hosting. It is well put together and well worth the admission. It brings one to the understanding of the history of Mobile in amazing presentations, art work and artifacts.

Another fine museum in Mobile to visit is the Museum of Art at Langdon Park...amazing to know that so much of the art presented there happens to be art from Mobile. It is impressively displayed in a state of the art facility.

Finally, have you visited the Mobile Fire Department Museum close to Fort Conde Village. This is a must for any child, young and old, whose heart wants to be a firefighter.

Mobile has so much to offer its citizens and citizens from the surrounding area. Although my family and I have lived in Baldwin County for over forty years, we consider Mobile history our own.

To be wise sometimes means to do more listening than talking.

As long as we're promoting Mobile, lots of people don't know about the Mobile Police Department Museum on Dauphin Street. It's small but packed full of interesting stuff. You can check out the 24/7 surveillance cameras through a glass enclosure, see all sorts of weapons and protective gear, past and present. There are abundant historical photos, a typical jail cell, and many references to famous crimes including the local capture of Patricia Krenwinkel of the Charles Manson family.
