Four Angels Bridge

Those were just questions thrown out for consideration, not meant to offend. I am all for preventing another tragedy. I hope and pray there are no more innocent lives lost. If the community and family want both the renaming of the bridge and fencing I am all for it and will do whatever I can to help get it done. If they want neither, or some other form of memorial, then I will stand behind that also. As I said in an earlier post, I only got involved in this when I saw that so many people were posting the idea to rename the bridge Four Angels Bridge in honor and memory of the children. I just made the contacts. Ultimately, it is up to the community and most importantly the family. I would just like the children to be forever remembered. Too often, time dulls our memories. I think with a simple sign that says Four Angels Bridge, people will be reminded not only of the children to pray for the family.

Do you even have a clue what the Nobel Peace Prize is? Nobel Prize >noun any of six international prizes awarded annually for outstanding work in physics, chemistry, physiology or medicine, literature, economics, and the promotion of peace.
-ORIGIN named after the Swedish chemist and engineer Alfred Nobel (1833 96), who endowed the prizes. Little Hint also the President does not give this out.

I am not opposed to putting up a fence. The idea of renaming the bridge Four Angels Bridge is just one thought of honoring them and remembering. It would involve a simple sign, not major construction. Most people probably don't realize how many roads and bridges actually have other names than what they are "commonly" called. For instance, those arguing against renaming the DI bridge, do you realize that the section of highway leading up to the bridge is actually Robert Cunningham Parkway, and Dauphin Island Parkway? I would just like to see some symbol to remember these babies. All this of course pending the mother's approval. Her wishes must remain first.

Would those that oppose the renaming, oppose a fence, lest it block their view? Would it really prevent another tragedy, or would someone just climb the fence? What about when the saltwater corrodes the fence in about 6months to a year and has to be replaced? These are just thoughts for consideration.
Block the view?? OMG... you must be kidding... "Corrosion"? They use Aluminum fencing.... Cost?? How much is a life worth today??? Climb the fence??? silly silly silly......Most every city I've ever been in has this "Precationary Measure" for what some think, good reason.

Thank you. Well stated. Gee! Let's take for example, the salt utilized in the snow countries of the US is used on the streets to aid in melting the snow. Does that slush (run-off) caused the fence to corroded? Heck no! Personally, I don't know the specs on the fence but I have not seen a fence replaced as a result of corrosion or anything else.. and I have lived in some extremed lows such as the snow-belt for many years. As for the view it is still magnificent.

You know...renaming the bridge is not such a bad idea after all, but I'm not sure if the renaming of the bridge would be used by people as the Four Angel Bridge. I always called the bridge Dauphin Island bridge when I just learned that the correct name is Cedar Point Bridge. However, I'm not sure if placing a fence up would prevent something like this happening in the further, but I would like to see a huge statue of a standing Angel with gold wings on each side of the bridge holding a rainbow ball to remember the babies and everyone else that has lost their lives on the bridge. Whether or not the bridge is renamed...I personally will always call the bridge "Four Angels Bridge".

Thank you to the many supporters of renaming the bridge Four Angels Bridge. I cannot understand why anyone would be OPPOSED to memorializing and honoring these children. Is it an "island" mentality, that they think they own the bridge and DI? Do they think that they are so much better than everyone else? How does it "glorify" the murderer-no one has said name it after him. In fact, we will forget his name over time. Does anyone remember the name of the person from VA Tech or the 9/11 hijackers. I don't, just the people who died. Did it honor the bomber when the street corner and church in Birmingham were renamed for the four little girls that lost their lives there. No, it honored them. Of course all this controversy is moot, until we know what the mother wants. Perhaps she doesn't want this tribute and it would be too painful for her. I personally don't see the idea of a park as some have suggested. As a mother myself, if I saw other kids playing in the park, that would hurt so much to know mine could never play there. I don't know who is organizing the opposition, but I think you need to step back and evaluate your REAL reasons and let's give this mom an opportunity. An opportunity for her opinion(when the time is right) and the opportunity to have her children remembered if that is what she wants. Time will fade memories for most of us, but a simple sign can remind us of those 4 beautiful children and to pray for them. Most people will continue to refer to it as DI bridge anyway, so I don't know why some are SO vehemently opposed to a marker. Yes, there will always be other tragedies, but hopefully none that have torn us as much as this has.

HONESTLY PEOPLE, WHAT CHILDS SPIRIT WOULD NOT RATHER BE IN A MEMORIAL PARK WITH OTHER CHILDREN, PLAYING AND HAVING FUN INSTEAD OF BEING STUCK ON A BRIDGE. RENAMING THE BRIDGE WOULD IMPRISON THEIR SPIRITS AT THE SCENE OF THE CRIME. I WOULD'NT DO THAT TO THEM.....

When my son was 4 mos., and turned 1, then 2, then 3...he loved going to the park where he could laugh, play and smile with other children. He's 8 now...and he still loves going to the park...especially Cottage Hill Park. The final decision should be up to that of the mother of these precious babies. Would the Bay Front Park be renamed before you get to the island on the left or the park on west side of the island before the school or just a new park honoring the children? When I was a little girl there was a park under the bridge where the old bridge stood (u could drive off to the side), but hurricane "Freddy" took it down, but I can still see my friends and I playing, laughing and smiling...we had a blast, and nobody can ever take those memories away from me. Note: if you look close enough over to the right of the bridge coming from the island to Mobile, you can still see the swing set.

Those beautiful children were murdered on that bridge. The last few terrified and painful moments of life were spent on that bridge. It was the weapon used to kill them. Please build them a little park where kids
can be safe and play. Please give them a little park that can't be seen from that awful bridge. A little park near where they lived and played, with a memorial to them in the center.
