duh yeah its true. you dont carry it like the old west but if you have a permit in alabama it allows you to carry a concealed weapon. there may be time when you can see itlike when stretching to put groceries in the car, or opening your jacket to get your wallet but it should be primarily concealed. you also have reciprocity in 23 states.
the crackheads and thugs have weapons, so many of us in alabama have decixded to apply for and be approved to carry concealed weapons, as long as we have lived right and stayed out of trouble we get permission to do so, its a reward for living within the confines of the law and our constitutional right. criminals do not get a permit, they just carry weapons unpermitted.
just a few hours ago at 5am i had someone parked in front of my house in rural baldwn county on a dead end road. took deputies 20 minutes to get here. i didint need a permit to carry one in the yard but was glad i had one anyway.
After receiving 4 post on gun carring, I will add my thoughts about carring a consealed gun on your side, so please reply, but as of now I dont think i will carry a gun ever for no reason remember it could accidentally go off striking you, just thinking, you can try and talk yourself in any situation. rswarren
its all up to you but if you have the right to apply for a permission slip to carry one concealed. i dont carry mine around on my side, i just keep it in my car or in my briefcase, loaded but without a chambered round. its unlikely to go off that way, since there isnt abullet in the chamber, but i see your point. there are MANY days and situations mine is safely locked in the safe at home, probably 70% of the time, i use mone mostly for travel
againts what law? there is no Law againts open carry in the state of Alabama , but there is no law for it ether. you can carry open , but you will fine yourself in court before the charges are dropped because most law inforcement dont know or dont want you to know that open carry is not illeage in this state. The state of Alabama is the ONLY one that can set laws on guns , not city or country. state law says it is up to the sheriff of the county to issue concealed pistol permits. opencarry.org.
Yes the law says that you can carry a weapon as long as you have a permit and the kicker is that you can also tell someone that you want to shoot someone else with it and the cops won't do anything about it. Ask the Saraland police. This is what we were told when someone with a gun permit told other people that he wanted to shoot my husband.
that is not the law.
you can not show(brandish) a weapon or make a "cradible" threat. that is assault or assault by threat. The threat on your husband was not credible or the officer was not.
Hmm.. It's always best to quote your sources. Here's mine and here's what it says.
TITLE 13A. CRIMINAL CODE.
CHAPTER 11. OFFENSES AGAINST ORDER AND SAFETY.
ARTICLE 3. OFFENSES RELATING TO FIREARMS AND WEAPONS.
DIVISION 1. GENERAL PROVISIONS.
§ 13A-11-50. Carrying concealed weapons.
Except as otherwise provided in this Code, a person who carries concealed about his
person a bowie knife or knife or instrument of like kind or description or a pistol or
firearm of any other kind or an air gun shall, on conviction, be fined not less than $50.00
nor more than $500.00, and may also be imprisoned in the county jail or sentenced to
hard labor for the county for not more than six months.
(Code 1852, §15; Code 1867, §3555; Code 1876, §4109; Code 1886, §3775; Code 1896, §4420; Code
1907, §6421; Code 1923, §3485; Code 1940, T. 14, §161; Code 1975, §13-6-120.)
Now the above doesn't apply to those that are issued Concealed weapons permits.
§ 13A-11-52. Carrying pistol on premises not his own; who may carry pistol.
Except as otherwise provided in this article, no person shall carry a pistol about his
person on premises not his own or under his control; but this section shall not apply to
any sheriff or his deputy or police officer of an incorporated town or city in the lawful
discharge of the duties of his office, or to United States marshal or his deputies, rural free
delivery mail carriers in the discharge of their duties as such, bonded constables in the
discharge of their duties as such, conductors, railway mail clerks and express messengers
in the discharge of their duties.
(Acts 1919, No. 204, p. 196; Code 1923, §3487; Code 1940, T. 14, §163; Code 1975, §13-6-122.)
I don't know of any permit that allows you to carry a weapon openly, for example on your hip. And my reading of the above indicates that you cannot openly carry a weapon on other peoples property. So that would seem to call into doubt the theory that you can openly carry a handgun strapped to your waist.
I guess I should have been a little more clear. My husband drives an 18 wheeler. The man who threatened to shoot him was a co-worker who also drives truck. This man is known to keep his pistol in his company owned truck. The threat was not told directly to my husband but to another co-worker who then told my husband what was said. Saraland didn't do anything because the man did not tell my husband directly that he was going to shoot him he told someone else he was going to do it. (Boy that made us feel safer) Because the man has a permit to carry a conceiled weapon the police could not do anything about it. The employer also looked the other way and blew it of too. I am not against anyone owning a weapon. My husband has hunting rifles but the difference is that you can own a gun responsibly or you can use them for criminal actions. The choice is yours and remember guns don't kill people, people kill people.
